Aspies - Assemble!!

Like all or most of you, I've felt somewhat outside typical human society all my life. Living in our society often feels humiliating because we can't compare to others on many aspects.

But "if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid" !

I see so much potential for our kind! On one side, yes we have difficulties, but on the other we have such talents! We should assemble, and create something majestic!

I've been deep in thought about projects that would unite our forces, something productive, sustainable and uplifting.

Have you thought about something similar? Any ideas or plans?

Some of my ideas, to get you going :

A Web-based bartering network
I like the idea of not contributing to the capitalist system,
and we could join our IT talents and many different interests on a single platform.
Beneficial to ourselves and to society.

An organized ecological task force
Going outside is good for the mind.
I often want to clean the areas I walk in, but it's a bit weird picking up garbage alone. Why not do it together? We could set up an app to organize, and then gather to clean an area.

Both of these sound like great ideas. I like that they are both sustainable in their own way. I obviously won't be much help in the technical aspect but I would love to contribute in any way I can if given the chance.

One thing that comes to mind is a franchise of sorts. A group of characters made by neurodiverse people that showcase differences we have with the general population. Something for neurodiverse kids and teens to look up to, and educate neurotypical ones about compassion and acceptance. We could have books and comics and webshows maybe even merchandise.

Growing up, there wasn't many fictitious characters I could look up to, as all the popular franchises had characters that were far removed from myself. It would be nice to have some relatable autistic kid characters that are the main stars rather than a side character.

I sometimes wistfully think it would be a good idea for us to assemble...

As in colocating.

A small, uncrowded town with good facilities and services, including medical and public transport, might be improved if Aspies tended to move there. If there were enough of us there then the local businesses and support structure might become a better fit for us.

If you have a time machine, set the controls for 1979 AD and Broomhall, Sheffield, UK. The alternativist types living there were mostly very friendly and non-judgemental, and understood the pain of mainstream society and of working in a "straight" job. I fitted in well without compromising myself. Not so suitable for right-wing Aspies or strong religionists, though even there they'd usually remain nice to you if you weren't hostile.

Unfortunately they've dispersed now, but similar types still exist in Sheffield and Rotherham, and probably in many other places.

I'm not sure I'd get on well in a group of fellow Aspies. Not full-time anyway. I can imagine us all trying to data-dump our special interests onto each other, thus boring each other to death. I suspect we also need some NTs to make a healthy community. I think homogenous groups are usually best avoided unless you can find one that you match uncommonly well. The great thing about very mixed groups is that no individual stands out as particularly unusual, so it's harder for the majority to marginalise the minority.

It would need to involve model railroads or bicycles or transportation systems of some sort.
