I feel like I don't have as much common sense but my critical thinking skills are better than most people



How good are your critical thinking skills?
How much common sense do you have?
What are some examples of times when people with a lot of academic education demonstrated bad critical thinking skills?

This may not be as much an issue with common sense as it is with the consequence of focus. Our neurology can provide a much greater focus of attention, but often at the expense of peripheral attention. This can result in missing important information. This is like a new driver focusing so much on the road ahead, that they fail to see a car coming from the side.

A plumber I knew told me the story of a university lecturer who put a cork into his overflow pipe when water started running out of it. It never occurred to him that the overflow is there for a reason and that the water would flood his house if he blocked it! "Too much education and no common sense."
