Title says it all
I find that at any given moment, my hyperfixations change as frequently as the weather, with some staying long enough to be short-listed as a special interest.

What is your current topic or activity of hyperfixation?

Desiring an apocalypse shelter seal myself inside inside as WW3 breaks out and society collapses in the next few years. Too bad it's impossible for me to get one.

I've had the same hyperfixation since childhood. Meerkats and veterinary medicine.

Small engine CDI ignition systems.

My ATV is not starting. I have determined it has no spark. My owners manual simply says take it to a Yamaha dealer. Last time I did that, I paid $1500.00.

I suspect I have a bad component that can be replaced for $100.00 or less, so I have been deep diving into CDI operation.

Fursuits (mascot style animal costumes, usually custom made to reflect the design of the wearer's original character)!

It's related to both of my special interests (art and creatures), which most of my fixations tend to be. I discovered fursuits as a teenager, and every few years I seem to get really interested in them again. This time it's been more intense than usual because I actually have the time, resources and energy to make a complete fursuit.

I've been watching tons of instructional videos and researching different styles and methods of construction. I have the base of the head made and I've gathered almost all the materials I need. It's going to be based on my fursona, a mint green dragon with floppy ears and yellow horns.

One of my favorites things about fursuits compared to other forms of costuming is that they completely transform the wearer. You're covered from head to toe, with a different head and even a different body shape (lots of fursuits include padding on different parts of the body to change your shape into something more animal-like, such as giving you the appearance of having werewolf legs). When I see someone wearing a well-made fursuit, I really feel like I'm looking at a cartoon creature that's come to life, as opposed to a person in a costume. I think they're really fascinating works of art, and also really cute and cuddly.

Here's an example of a fursuit by a maker I really admire (Fluffyjellydog). I'd love to be able to make something this seamless and beautiful some day, but it takes a lot of work and practice

I fixate on work. Always have, always will. I'm a workaholic. It used to bother me, but as I've got older I've learned to just accept and embrace it. My happy place is sat in front of a computer working, building or fixing things and ticking off goals, and I no longer care if people think that's weird/wrong/bad/whatever!

I'm really similar. I work in software, and I find it really fun to learn and think about new technologies. Not usually stuff I find "boring" but I will often be watching videos about programming on my days off.

Hyperfixations.
I keep losing them every other week. Some stayed for months at a time. For years.
Many of which involves stories of whatever media or recurring themes of whatever.

Sometimes remnants of my special interests, only to forget them a week later or whenever I have hormonal shifts.

And no.
They're not related to special interests. Because I never been a fan of anything.
More like related to addictions and coping mechanisms than anything.

The cravings in my head that my head wants in order to stay sane, contrary to what my real interests are.

I was not like this as a child or even as a teenager.

I only had long term special interests until I'm starting to only waste time coping with crap than super focus on interests.

Maybe it's time I quit my day job.
I'm not growing by staying in the cycle of wasting my time coping and it's tiring.

1) Different ways to spell a female name phonetically. Alexandria vs. Aleccsanddreya
2) Big, fat, poofy or otherwise voluminous ponytails.
3) Racial mixes.
4) Autism especially eye contact.

Do you have the album "Quadrophenia" by the Who?

Its a rock opera about a guy in...one of the two...groups. Forget which.

Persona (video game series) is a kinda in-the-background hyperfixation. I'm not actively hyperfixating right now, but whenever I am able to make myself play the games I go back into obsession mode.

I don't seem to hyperfixate the same way I did when younger.

Do you find you miss it, or is it easier to function without intense hyperfixations? Mine haven't changed since I was a kid and I have mixed feelings about them
