This morning I went to my kitchen to make a bowl of cereal for breakfast, and when I was done, I put the milk jar in the cabinet and the cereal bag in the fridge, completely absent minded. When I made lunch later, I realized I just lost an entire gallon of milk to a stupid brain fart. I know this happens to everyone, but it has been happening to me since I can remember, very frequently. When it happened today, I decided to make a wrongplanet account and make this post. Does anyone know if being absent minded is a common trait of ASD?

I do stuff like that all the time. It could be that we're hyperfocused on something else, or it's poor EF. It could also be ADHD if the person has that. I've put the entire toaster in the fridge before. Today I looked for an envelope for about two hours and it was in the oven. (Yes I have ADHD.)

yes, more the green smoke experience, very short term memory not working

otherwise be more mindfull of what you are doing instead of mentally drifting away
what people used to say, be in the body(or now) not in the head,
newer is mindfullness, etc
Mindfulness focuses the human brain on what is being sensed at each moment, instead of on its normal rumination on the past or the future.

or as a peasant once said; always be attentive or accidents will happen !
no labels or religions required for this wisdom

That kind of thing happens to me sometimes. It's one of the ways that I know that I am exhausted and need to rest for a long time.

My whole life. I can remember locker combinations and phone numbers from my childhood. I know pi to 60 decimal places, and can recite the entire Cremation of Sam McGee at the drop of a hat. But I misplace my phone at least half a dozen times a day, and rarely retrieve something from the next room without going back to what I was doing to remind me why I went in the first place. I have forgotten what I was saying in the middle of a sentence.
I was a physicist in the Air Force, so I guess I can legitimately call myself an absent minded professor.

I think things like this usually happen to me when I'm lost in thought.

The most notable things that have happened to me during these times were

Pour boiling water on my bare hand (I was suppose to be making coffee)
Put the kettle in the fridge

I'm trying really hard to pay attention now so things like this don't happen again

Things like this happen to me when I'm stressed.
