I went to the doctors this morning as you know from my last thread. The doctor has suggested councelling. I shall start soon and we will see what happens with the councelor.

That's good. I'm going to go back to counseling soon.

What kind of counseling are you going to get?

I'm going to try and get to the root of my problem. Whether I really have AS or not

Congrats on seeking counseling. I, after meeting some time-wasting shrinks and social workers, was lucky enough to find a psychologist who is completing her residency. She not only diagnosed me as an Aspie, she is providing excellent therapy. I have been going since January, and have cleaned up much debris. It horrifies me to realize how much time I wasted in NT based counseling, all these years.

I have had lots of counseling.
It is good, just give it time.

Good councilors are worth more than there weight in gold!

Find a good counselor. If you don't like this one, go to another one. Trust me. My first psychologist was a total nutcase and didn't know what my problem was. My second was great and I still see him. He appreciates me for who I am.

Great.

I started counselling with a psychologist a couple of weeks ago and she is fantastic!

She works in an asperger's/autism specialist clinic and looks after 2 of my sons too.

It's been incredibly helpful.

I have had councelling before and personally it did nothing for me.
I actually felt worse after each session and after going about 8 times I decided to stop because I was getting more depressed.

But good on you for seeking help anyway. I hope it works for you better than it did for me.

Good for you! Don't forget to take your vitamins, as some mental conditions are symptoms of poor nutrition, and you need to see if vitamins make a difference.

Congrats! I think counseling is a good thing as long as you don't get a fruitcake for a psychologist. I wish I could get counseling, but I can't afford it. The closest I get to counseling is talking to my MD about Aspergers. Since she has an AS kid she understands me. It helps to talk to her for like 5 minutes about it. Otherwise I have no one to talk to that understands. I quit going to the autism meetings because I get no understanding there. 8O Ironic, huh? I've had no counseling since high school and I had to sneak to get that and the guy turned out to be a prejudice, pompous a$$.

The doc needs and understanding of Aspergers.

Don’t let the doc give you the same treatment that he would give to NT with psychological problems. You are different.

If I was diagnosed as an NT, my bigheadedness would be a deep seeded insecurity and a needing fore self importance. I somehow want the world to see me as a tortured genius, who no one understands. I would also hold a lot of passive aggression that will eventually explode like Ned Flanders in an episode of the Simpson’s.

That’s only that start.
