Aspie's and NT's have more similarities than differences

When I thought about what can Aspies do to improve at their career, social skills, friendships, dating, etc., I realized, that a lot of the same fundamentals that apply to Aspies apply to everyone.

In the majority of cases, I thought "Yes, this applies to Aspies, but I would say the exact same thing to NT's".

Maybe it's more difficult for Aspies.
Maybe I would convey a point a different way to an Aspie vs. an NT; but it would still be the same point.
Maybe the execution is a little bit different, but there are different ways to achieve the same result.

A teacher in New York designed a classroom that is good for both NT & ND children.
She says:

Quote:
"But I have never encountered a single human being, of any age or neurotype, who doesn't thrive when treated like an autistic person. (I mean, of course, treated the way an autistic person OUGHT to be treated. With open communication, adaptive expectations, and respect for self-advocacy and self-regulation).

"And that got me thinking that maybe [neurodiverse] people aren't the only ones who've been misunderstood and mistreated all this time.

"They're just the ones who feel it most, and the ones who finally got the message through to the rest of humanity that there's a better way to be."

The Rochester Institute of Technology has prepared:
"Employer Guide to Supervising Individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)"
Recommendations on what a manager, interviewer, co-worker, or recruiter can do to improve interactions with Autistics begin on the bottom of page 3. Those recommendations look to me like things that would be beneficial with everyone, not just Autistics.

The Academic Autism Spectrum Partnership in Research and Education (AASPIRE) has prepared:
"Caring for Patients on the Autism Spectrum: How Autism Can Affect Healthcare"
Recommendations for how a medical professional should interact with an Autistic. Again, the recommendations look to me like things that would be beneficial with everyone, not just Autistics.

Accommodations simply level the playing field I think. A good chunk of my work accommodations (such as direct communication and frequent feedback) would probably benefit someone who is not ASD, but I do need them more than a NT would.

Fundamentals as most humans do, yes.
But does the current system do cater exactly that? No.

The current system runs in favor of a particular selection bias -- which happened that NTs tolerate enough, and a few NDs could slip through the cracks.

The system is exploitative. And is somewhat self perpetuating in every generation through social norms...

Except around this time, that perpetuation is begining to break itself down.
I hope in 3 generations or less that it'll be over with.

But that's just me hoping so I could see it; it's likely that'll happen in 5 or more generations if it keeps up.

I hate the current system.
That is all I know.

I hate the old system even more, and wherever the crap started;
the 'reason' why my mom's like that, is because my grandmother's like that at that time, is because my great grandmother's like that at the time, etc...
