does misanthropy have anything to do with being an Aspie? I'm sort of self-diagnosed - I don't have all the symptoms but I think I have enough of them - and recently I've been very frustrated with my lack of social skills, and grumbling to myself that I wish I didn't have to deal with people in general. I'm reminding myself of a misanthrope. do any other Aspies feel like this?
(also, this is my first poll c: just trying it out.)

I'm kind of a misanthrope but I wouldn't say I hate every human being.

For those of you who watch Doctor Who, my relationship with humanity is like the Doctor's, except I haven't saved them from alien invasion a gajillion times. I admire some of their achievements, but I'm also frustrated by their many failings. Actually, it's a pretty bad comparison. I definitely don't like most people.

I'm too ambivalent to be considered a misanthrope. I find people alternately fascinating and repelling - or anywhere in between. But I am not highly social.

I wouldn't say I dislike people or I'm a misanthrope. I only don't understand them, I can see I'm different, they don't really understand me either, so we avoid each other in the end. That's all. :spiderman:

Waxes and wanes. In general the younger I was the more people disgusted me. It takes effort to be accepting of what every person, myself included, cannot help but be and do.

It takes no effort for me to love non-human animals.

I like your variety of answers. does anyone think misanthropy is linked to AS or does it just come as a side effect to the symptom of social anxiety (or social whatever) depending on the individual's personality?

I used to be that way some when I was more frustrated about things. I was more negative & I have lots of problems because of my AS & other things & I felt like society is unaccepting of people's differences & wants everyone to clones of everyone else.
Has anyone noticed that misanthropic Aspies seem to have a lot in common with Schizoid Personality Disorder :?:

I dislike many people, but I don't start out disliking them. They have to earn my dislike, and sadly, an awful lot of people do. I get pretty frustrated by the way large groups of people seem to behave, but I don't carry that over into my encounters with individual people. Everyone starts with a clean slate, and the presumption of intelligence and goodwill.

I lean towards more a side effect than a direct result. I can easily see how the frustration of poor social skills could result in a very negative view of other humans. But too many Aspies are friendly in their own quirky ways to think that misanthropy is inevitable.

The majority of people I've met here and in the chatroom have been misantropes rambling about some BS "human nature is evil" garbage.

Sometimes. I don't hate people, but they do frustrate me from time to time.

Agree. I'm an ex misanthrope.

really? I've only been here a little while but I haven't seen any really negative posts like that. for the most part, my impression is that people here are pretty good-natured.

that makes more sense. it's been confusing to me because I think I'm bipolar too, so half the time I wanna crawl in a hole and the other half I want to be friendly and try my best, even if I'm not very good at it.
