Before I learned about AS, I thought I was just weird.

Often I will hear a word, in a commercial, in conversation, in a song, etc., and I'll repeat that one word over and over in my head. I can stop, but it's quite difficult unless I am sidetracked, and it usually comes right back. It can go on for hours or even days. Is that what they're talking about?

It happened to me today. A commercial came on and there was a word (sometimes it's just a new or interesting one, but it can happen with any word and my brain picks it for me) and it's still bouncing around in my head. Sometimes I'll actually mouth the word or say it aloud once or twice just to "feel" it. I know that probably sounds nuts. Just curious.

Nope. Echolalia is actually vocalizing it.

I STILL remember how I used to have this problem ALL THE TIME. I also could probably NEVER "clear my mind". These days i can sometimes be SO silent, I almost pine for when I never could be! Ironically, give the question here, I am MORE likely to sound like I have Echolalia now.

CRAZY!

I still have problems with Echolalia, people who don't know me think its funny, when I repeat things said to me. The other day I had the word "start" stuck in my head don't know why just popped up, couldn't stop saying it, nothing else came out of my mouth besides that. I also repeat whats on tv too, or it came just a word or thought that came to my head and I have to say it over and over again, sometimes I wear myself out haha, or it could be a number, just yesterday I was saying 28 over and over, I think I saw it on the calender and then it stuck, ah it sucked. Or I'll repeat whats said to me, last week my aunt was like alright alright, so I repeated it, her daughter just laughed and was like thats a good impression, I was like ugh what was haha.
