I say depression and ADHD! I mean, in the instances *I* mean. :P

Depression and ADD are a sign that I'm too smart for this world, with so much empty capacity that normal stuff in this world doesn't "fill me up" enough!

I don't think it's "cool" to be diagnosed AT ALL.

You can grow to accept it and learn to live with it and work through your problems, but I don't think that ANY diagnosis is "cool".

bipolar (all types)
ADHD (the H bit is important)
borderline personality disorder

all 'cool' disorders (in the high school cliquey sense, but applied elsewhere)

I predict that ADHD will become increasingly percieved by the wider society as 'autistic' and this will ultimately damage its street cred.

You said exactly my thoughts on the matter, better than I could have.

Mental illness or disabilities are NOT "cool."

What's positive and inspirational is when you are able to OVERCOME them and accomplish things DESPITE having them, but actually having them in and of itself is NOT cool.

BTW, my roommate isn't autistic as far as I know, but he is bipolar. He's largely functional, but it's definitely hindered his life significantly.

I would say Asperger's... but that's not a disorder. It's definitely not cool to have any kind of disorder. It IS extremely cool to have AS.

A lot of people think TS is cool but it really sucks... Some people do say that my shouting tics are cool! I often shout what everyone else is thinking! I am also bordering on antisocial personality disorder! MWA HA HA YOU ALL SUCK! Only joking...

To be fair, I love my Aspergers. Nowadays anyway lol. Not back in school... makes me cringe just thinking about it... lol
AS has guided me well these days.

It's not "cool" to be diagnosed with anything. It's that kind of thinking that leads to posers prancing around announcing that they're mentally ill when they have no idea what it means to be on the brink of a mental breakdown.

None. Why would one actually want to be ill? Having only recently joined, I haven't followed the discussion on whether or not Asperger should be considered an illness or just a variation of the mind (like an internal, different skin colour). Whatever the experts conclude (and assuming that I have it, which is at the moment unsure), I would rather be without any of the problems I've had, even if it means that the huge amount of time and love that I put into my beloved hobbies will be diminished. Perhaps I'm just being too pessimistic, but I haven't found much positive about whatever condition I have.

But if there's nothing that can be done right now it's better to brag about it, thus making it into something positive, than complain about it or be ashamed of it. :D
