I'm asking this question because I watched a news item (I don't think I will be able to find it on You Tube) it was on BBC News 24 there was this man on it and he was saying that people with Asperger Syndrome are more likely to make better managers then other people. I sort of agree because where I was working at I my boss watched that news item because I ended being in charge of their warehouse.

It depends on the type of AS person you are, just like it depends on the type on NT person you are. It also depends on the type of people working under you and how your personalities all work... just like with NT people.

But yeah, I think I'd be a good manager because I wouldn't intimidate others and make them scared and thus screw up... I'd be understanding; firm but kind. If someone kept screwing up I'd make it clear to them that I wasn't firing them. I'd tell them even, "Nice try, but I'm not firing you." However, if the people tried to intimidate me... I dunno!

I'd say no, based on a sample of one (me). I've tried management jobs a couple of times and I was never comfortable. The being in charge bit didn't bother me but ordering other people around did. I'm not too hot at delegating.

Some are born to lead, others are born to follow. I follow.

I ran a pre-college basic skills program for thirteen years. I had taught in it for a couple of years pevious to my promotion.

I must have done a very effective job. A program that most of the faculty wanted to shut down before I took it over ran very successfully for the thirteen years and gained the respect of many of its critics. Personally, I felt that my real strength was in grant writing. I brought in milllions of dollalrs.

But, I do know that a lot of the staff really liked me and still do today (I've been back in the classroom for ten years and have loved every minute of it).

A handful of people really hated me, and, having little in the way of diplomatic skills, I'm afraid that I inadvertantly fueled that anger. One went so far as to sue me, but the judge found her argument to be trivial and threw it out.

I am, however, very happy teaching and plan to remain doing so.

My students like me very well, and I have a 4.4 with a good number of ratings on ratemyprofessor.com.
