Hi- This is my first time posting. I was diagnoised 6 years ago with a really mild case of AS. The only reason I was diagnoised was because I was seeing a therapist for post traumatic stress disorder, and even though that was a lot better, my therapist sensed that there was something that was preventing me from progressing farther. My therapist used to be a special ed. teacher, and she suspected that I had a learning disability, and sent me to a neuropsychologist who told me that I definately had a learning disability as well as HFA. At first my therapist said that no way was I HFA, because my social skills were too good. My therapist then came to the conclusion that I had a really mild case of AS along with some learning disability problems. I have had bad experiences with vocational rehabilitation in the Chicago area. I asked them for help with interviewing skills and computer training, and all they did basically was try to find a job for me. In one years time, they got me one job interview which was for a part time job that paid $7 an hour. I have gone for job interviews on my own since then, and I am primarily looking for 1-1 special ed. teaching assistant positions. I have gotten some interviews, but I have problems selling myself, and I never seem to get the job. I have a degree in Recreation Therapy, and I have had lots of experience working with the elderly and special needs kids, but primarily my experience has been with the elderly. I need to learn how to show people that my skills that I have acquired with the elderly are transferable. Due to my LD problems, I am not good at multitasking, and it takes longer for me to learn information. Does anybody know of a person in the Chicago area that has experience helping aspies with their interviewing skills or finding a job? I would be willing to pay some money for these services if I had to. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks, Nancy

Son let me tell you something Voc Rehab isnt in the business of helping you, there in the business to turning you into a tax payer. i went to VR for a whole freaking year and was shown no respect, mentally disrespected, and given a job working 2 1/2 hours a day four days a week making $6 an hour.

good luck though trying to fit in with everyone else so you can have self respect and be a "responsible tax paying citizen"

i'm through with it.
