Anyone had their AS diagnosis changed to something else?

I was diagnosed with AS when I was 14, but the shrink did a crummy job at it, asking about my autistic tendencies but not my NT ones so much. My current shrink seems to know that I don't have enough autistic tendencies to be AS (though I do have some) and so he said that my diagnosis would probably be a Pervasive Developmental Disorder, like AS (but he implied not AS itself, that he was just using it as an example of a high-functioning PDD). The next time I saw him and told him I probably had Sensory Processing Disorder (which he had never heard of) he was very interested, said that really desribed me. He couldn't find it in his books, however, the next time I went. He remembered though... when I asked what my diagnosis would probably be he said that it would probably be-- what was that diagnosis I had mentioned to him again? I told him, "Sensory Processing Disorder. Sensory Deprivation." "Whatever it's called... that's it. It fits you to a T." Then he pointed to the part of his book about Pervasive Developmental Disorder--Not Otherwise Specified and said, "How would you like to have this?" I said that it means disorder, not delay, right? He said yes... not necessarily delay. But sometimes it does mean that (he seems to think it's probably not me) and it also depends on WHAT is delayed.


So I'll probably get a PDD and SPD diagnosis, as my main ones... he seems to think the major major depression and severe social anxiety stemmed from that, though he didn't seem to even be trying to hint it to me.

Quite the opposite here.

was originally diagnosed with AS [and adhd and learning difficulties,all of which haven't changed,and he diagnosed severe depression-not for that time but from as a child and teenager],by a mental health pyschologist,the gp said to am/sister he was the most experienced in autism,which shows just how bad autism assessment is in manchester-he had never worked with one person with any sort of autism before,and was reading up on it as am was in his office.

he asked,did am like computers,told him 'yes' with thumb up and by nodding [the lack of proper speech didn't seem to give it away],he did not want any say from parents on what am was like as a child,eg,regression and speech and language problems,the extreme reactions to changes and noise etc,the lack of awareness of anything outside self....

some time after,a autism specialist speech therapist,worked with am regulary for a long time [over year at least],assessing,and also compiling a book about am,he says am have classic/AD and not AS-not low functioning,but not high functioning AD either.
as he works for the council/social services,he is unable to make the diagnosis official,so am have to go private to see an autism specialist as it's not going to happen in manchester on the nhs.
staff and parents want am to go for rediagnosis,but they've checked funds and they've said it's no way near the cost of assessment.

When I began having difficulties at age 12, I was diagnosed with Atypical Childhood Psychosis although I never had hallucinations
or delusions. Somehow, that developed into Schizophrenia in people's minds but, whoa,... that diagnosis was totally inaccurate. I think Psychiatry is more of an Art than a Science and Psychiatrists never know anything for certain. Now, I am told I have
Asperger's Syndrome but, I look and act like a Neurotypical. I don't know who or what to believe anymore. I am just NOT letting
anyone stuff any more of those "toxic" psychiatric drugs down my throat anymore. I stopped taking Celexa last April, 2007 and I
feel perfectly fine. Sometimes, I think it is the psychiatric system that makes people 'sick' than they really are. Still, everyone's
life situation is different...

And I think there are quite a few graffiti artists out there, who just tag their subjects with any label they feel like and then dash off.

I was diagnoised wid classic autism wen i was 3 but den diagnoised wid AS wen i was 11.

Was dxed with AS at 18 and now it's NVLD instead.

I was recently dxed with inattentive ADHD, but i still have my AS diagnostic.
