I was just wondering (keep in mind I'm the first whom switch between "yes" and "no"), I feel a lot similitudes between them such as L and Near from Death Note.
I would say Sasori shows more traits than Gaara which shows more PSTD than ASD.
The Sasori's went healed with shout down, which is common and I did it too, since if you see the end he choosed to die... in the end Sasori after betray Sand, which would be my native land tbh, never had an example of love and Chiyo was one of the few but for the few moments we see him as kid he shows it... since mild autism is weird, quite invisible if you act techniques to hide it, he looks like the avarange mild autism who got a perfect shout down so perfect to being his nature... I did it for years.
When Chiyo won he showed his nature.
For Gaara I would he could be but the PSTD is too huge for say he is or not.

Don't worry I can resume everything!
Ok, where do I start?
SASORI
Sasori was a kid raised in a period surrounded by wars, his parents died as warriors during one of those war and his grandmom Chiyo who was a cynical person who was believing you couldn't trust in noboby and she was a great doctor-warrior who was a genius in creating puppets for battle.
When Sasori's parents died Chiyo wasn't able to told him so she lied and she took the distances but she had kept to teach him how to create puppets as well.
He had created a puppet version of his parents, those puppets hugged him and were sleeping with him.
My theory starts here: stand alone Sasori is a shy kid not interested in nothing except puppets and he had only a friend.
Her it could be or PSTD or ASD, I thought ASD because to me he was closer.
Growing older he had start to create puppets even poisoning the only his friends for having an human puppet.
I didn't thought it is linked to schizoid syndrome because in Today Psychology and other psychological webpages I had read that ASD with PSTD if in the first level can develope NPD and ASDP traits and I had read about style of personal disorder which makes more sense to me.
So, I had start to wondering if he was originally ASD whom had developed a style of personal disorder which is pervasive.
Since when he betrayed his village he had start to collect human puppets who required to be alive during the whole process, he did 300 of them.
Sasori killed the first president (kage) and strongest warrior creating a human puppet with and tried to kidnap Gaara's dad another kage.
He went choosed for be one of the founder of a mafia alike group of warriors becoming one of the most powerfull but still he hated having to do but he had also learned how to manage people.
He cannot be a schizoid since was him life was around self esteem (he turned him into a puppet for not getting old) and created puppet for his ego and he was always angry which makes impossible being a schizoid.
When he had fight against Chiyo he tried to kill her and even had fight against his parents since in the end he had lost the battle.
He had lost the battle not because he was weak but because he choosed to die with his parents's puppets.
This makes me thinking he actually is more an ASD with a complete shout down which had lead to a ASDP style achieving many or almost whole of the traits.
GAARA
He is similar but the personality isn't the same.
His personality is instable but not for his own personality but because everybody was hating him, his parent sealed into him a monster and his uncle tried to kill him because he was believing he killed his mother borning.
His monster made him unable to sleep and able to create a sand armor.
Gaara was seeking for love and help but he hadn't no special interests and was just a PSTD kid who was try to keep away everybody for not being hurted.
He was hated and feared by everybody in his village (Sand).
He was angry and sadist but only because he was believing this is the only way to find self love and he had his brother and sister who were taking care about him but he was feeling no love for them.
When he met Naruto, the protagonist and a young teen with the same childhood but dreamer and altruist, he had changed and started to be like Naruto but shy.
Getting more and more healed he became a kage.

You certainly gave detailed descriptions.
Since these are imaginary characters, one has to look behind them to the mind of the story teller to speculate as to why he crafted his characters they way he did. Some of this would have to do with the basic craft of story telling. A relatable character has to face and overcome difficulties. Here is a summary of the story The Odyssey;
The Odyssey is one of two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer. It is one of the oldest works of literature still widely read by modern audiences. Like the Iliad, the Odyssey is divided into 24 books. It follows the Greek hero Odysseus, king of Ithaca, and his journey home after the Trojan War. After the war, which lasted ten years, his journey from Troy to Ithaca, via Africa and southern Europe, lasted for ten additional years during which time he encountered many perils and all of his crewmates were killed. In his absence, Odysseus was assumed dead, and his wife Penelope and son Telemachus had to contend with a group of unruly suitors who were competing for Penelope's hand in marriage.
Here the main character is a king who is trying to get home after a war. A character needs to be relatable so the audience is interested. If someone tried to tell a story about the difficulties Hitler had to overcome, it would be difficult to keep the audience's interest.
In the US there are a lot of teenage / high school movies. This is because this audience has a lot of disposable income to pay for movie tickets. In the social structure the highest level is the football quarterback and the head cheerleader. While movies are made that make the protagonists one of these two, many are made where the character is on the outside, the periphery, or even in opposition to the traditional social hierarchy. Spiderman is in this category.
Since most children in general often feel like an outsider, stories for children will often have their main characters as an outsider. Here the Cinderella story captures the travail of an outsider who eventually wins the prize. The key to having a relatable character is to get the audience to project themselves into he character so that they feel invested in the story.
I use Aspergers instead of Autism as I feel that Autism is being turned into a miscellaneous category.
Those with Aspergers have a neurological variant that results in a faster, more complex, or more sensitive neurology. This results in an avalanche of sensory and cognitive data to be processed. As a result children that grow up with this have a much more intense inner life as they try to sort through all of the information they are processing. This inner life results in developmental delays (particularly social skill).
Modern life has a significantly decreased time for parents to interact with their children. This coupled with the factory like environment of school can make children feel even more isolated. Those that craft anime stories know how to present characters and situations in such a way as to become almost addictive to children by presenting them with scenarios that seem so relatable that they easily project themselves into the stories.
What you observe in these characters are perhaps less real characteristic of Aspergers than general characteristics of alienation, difficult circumstances, being misunderstood or trapped, and some eventual hope that difficulty can be resolved.
