We are developing a scientifically sound scale to assist the diagnosis of autism spectrum disorders. It consists of 80 questions about how you think and react to everyday situations. It is a multicenter, international study (UCLA, Yale, U of Utah, Mt. Siani, Tony Attwood, Sydney Univerity) . It takes about 1/2 hour or less to answer the questions, and a $20 subject fee is available. All information is confidential and federal and state human subject protection guideline are followed, with the consent form approvied by the California Institutional Review Board. I will be gald to meet with you in person if you are near Los Angeles, or talk to you on the phone if not. All that is required is that you are 18 years or older, have be diagnosed as on the spectrum and be able to understqnd and answer the questions. thanks in advance for heiping us help others on the spectrum please contact me at [email protected] or by phone 310 825-0220 Ed Ritvo, MD Professor Emeritus UCLA Medical School

How much personal info do we have to give out? And do you take down full names & addresses?

I would be glad to participate. Can we have you donate the participation fee directly to WP,as we are having a financial issue at present?Perhaps we can have you contact the site founder about this?(Alex Plank).

Oh re-reading the OP I see he does not have to meet the person IRL. So that idea may work. I was assuming he had to meet the people and the $20 might barely cover gas for people. But most aspies would take a 30 minute test on autism for free. :)

I tend to assume that someone has 2-3 days to respond to an E-mail. Sometimes things can get backlogged, not everyone has the time to respond within an hour or two to an E-mail.

Maybe. FWIW, I'll sometimes leave personal E-mails to sit for days and days, because I can't get my feelings and thoughts together coherently to reply, so I just wait 'til I feel like I have the energy to reply. I'd guess the OP is pretty busy, given where he's working.

Everyone should help Dr. Ed Ritvo in his research project. If you do not live in the L.A. California area or cannot telephone him,
he will send you the questionnaire of 80 questions by SNAIL MAIL. He will even provide you with the Self-Addressed,Stamped
Envelope to mail it back to him. The questions are reasonably simple to answer and do not take long to answer. Beside, it is
an easy twenty dollars, TAX FREE!

Contact Dr. Ed at: [email protected] to have the questions sent to you by SNAIL MAIL. I did and I am twenty dollars richer!

Thanks to each and everyone who responds to help him out.

I let my personal emails sit for days or weeks sometimes too. But that's because I'm an Aspie mostly. I'm assuming the research dude isn't Aspie, otherwise he could just research his self and not bother with us. So that means he should be more prompt about responding than us.

I emailed the guy yesterday so would have thought he would have responded by now. Oh well it was only $20.

If he wants to do some real eye opening research he should just turn a group of us loose in one of the university laboratories. I get a little overly excited around electron microscopes. And centrifuges are always fun. I have to take everything apart to see how it works.

Hahaha! Dr. Ritvo responded to my email ASAP.

Which may imply that although he loves Aspies I am his favorite
Oooh, did I say that aloud?

However, he did inform me that I cannot participate due to my far geographical distance, which is illogical if this test can be sent via 'snail mail.' Alaska does happens to be part of the US. I get real mail (& not just Victoria Secret catalogs either).

Observation: Dr. Ed misspelled (sp?) Aspie (is it a 'typo' or a Freudian slip?). He may have been a rush - microwave popcorn on fire? I'm imagining innumberable scenarios. There's a typo in his original post too.....coincidence? Or symptomatic? Hmm. Separately, I suggested, via email, he find an avatar &/or more appropriate user name since he is a member. No response from Dr. Ed. No response is in and of itself a response.

Anyway, Ed (may I call you Ed, BTW? Good). So, Ed, why can't I respond to your questionnaire via 'snail mail?' Please respond. Comply.

Ticker, I am the mischevious Lab Pet! The analytical laboratory is my realm........
