Here's some news on yahoo about bipolar disorder.

It mentions lithium and electricity fields helping people with depression after a brain scan. Electriciy doesn't help, it's the the knowledge of the brain scan will enable the person to find out what is wrong with them. It is hope that makes them less depressed.

They are testing rats too, for an enzyme.
