I woke up this morning at 2:30 to use the bathroom and as I got up out of bed, something happened inside my head. It's hard to describe, but I saw a quick flash which faded out and left a strange looking pattern in my field of vision, A series a angled lines, all paralel to each other with dark spots at regular intervals. This pattern persisted for about 10 minutes before it faded out.

Also during this time, everything had a greenish tint to it.

It was wierd to say the least.

I find your description quite disturbing. Flashes are generally considered dangerous. I experience them often and don't pay any attention, but if you never had them before, I would consult a doctor. The rest of your description I find even more troubling, especially the fact that visual effects persisted for such a long period. I am sorry to sound alarming, but if the sensation comes again, I would definitely go to the doctor (only I don't know to which one).

Magic, what do you think this could be a sign of? I've had flashes happen before. Mainly at night when I have my jerks while I'm trying to sleep. I've had them only a couple of times when I've woken up at night, but never anything that lasted for as long as it did last night.

Update: I had to work last night, there was definitely something going on inside my head that wasn't right. I think the stress of getting ready for the upcoming school year and moving away is starting to get to me. The last time I felt like this was last fall when I was pushing myself (from my perspective...) to get good grades since I need to have a 2.5 GPA to get into my B.A. program, and mine was only 2.2 with 48 credits.

About midway through the fall semester I noticed my mind beginging to play tricks on me, Mainly every now and then, I would hear things that weren't happening. i.e. I would be listening to music and I would hear a knock on my door and no one would be there, or I would be in bed and hear my mom call my name from outside my door, even though it was 2am and she would be sound asleep in her room.

The most bizzare incident happened when my IS class went on a two day field trip down to southwestern wisconsin to see areas the glaicers didn't touch. It was quite the trip, and we spent the night at a hotel in Pararie DuChein. I was dead tired, even though it was 8pm. I decided to sleep while the guy I was staying with went to another room to hang out for a while. While I was trying to sleep, (I never get any sleep in a bed other than my own) I hear footsteps creaking across the floor, then someone snickering, I turned around to see a person out of the corner of my eye begining to leave. I put my head back down on my pillow and it dawned on me, even though I was still awake, I never heard the door to room open or close. But I was tired and didn't bother to think about it.

Last night at work, I was totally out of it, I was there physically, but not mentally. Looking at row upon row of neatly faced products was unusually hard for me to handle. I went to bathroom to wash up before I went on break and I heard someone come in and go into one of the stalls, but when I was done with washing my hands, the doors to both stalls were wide open!

Then later on I heard the night checker call me a "meanie" as she went past the isle I was working in. I went to investigate as to why and she denyed the whole thing, along with two other people who said she didn't say what she did.

I don't know what to make of it. Last night was one of those night where I didn't feel like coming in and if I had a personal day I would have used it. But since I don't, I had no choice. I think I'll try and sleep this off today and hopefully I'll feel better when I wake up.

Sounds like high level stress. Definitely go to a doc... you have nothing to lose. I can empathise with what your describing - sometimes I experience similar from lack of sleep (24 - 48 hours aprox), but I think they are extreme circumstances. There are other more serious long term conditions that can lead to similar effects. If you find yourself arguing with others about what you think they did, and they claim they didn't, its worth seeing a doc. (hope I don't sound too bossy here - sorry - maternal instincts taking over)

Its the gnomes, they also steal stuff and hide it in plain sight. only appearing in the corner of your eye. Kinda liek that movie "a gnome named gnorme", he was hiding behind the human, and moved when the human moved.

;)

The flashy bit might just be because you stood up to fast to go the b-room. -lack of blood to the eyse or something. (to me, it looks like static on a tv)

Magic and myself had a lenghty disscussion via pm yesterday about my strange night at work. I chalked the whole thing up to being on permant overload last night. If any of you read my thread in the "Members Only" part of the forum about me confronting a bully at work, you'd know that a manager who has authority over me likes to bully me at work. I had to work with him for the first time in about 12 days when another employee, along with myself led two others in a confrontation about his bulling. I guess I was afraid of retaliation on his part for my sucess in shooting down his ego.

I'm certainly no doctor, but I've had similar flashes and light-patterns on the periphery of my vision in the past. The first time it happened, I went to my eye doctor, who did an exam but found nothing wrong with my eyes. He suggested it may have something to do with migraines. I have had this happen before where it was accompanied by a low-grade headache and fatigue afterwards, but not always. You may want to Google on "ocular migraines" and see what you find out.

HOWEVER-- flashes of light can also be symptomatic of a detaching retina, so maybe a trip to the eye doctor is in order to rule out anything serious.

If I keep getting flashes I'll have my eyes looked at, but at this point I'm not going to worry about it too much. We've never had much in the way of eye problems in my family. The only thing I can think of that might cause me to have detached retnia would be "severe trauma" since I was a chronic head basher from the time I started school in 1985, till when I got out of second grade in 1988.

The other thing about head bashing. I remember everytime I brought my head up hard against a wall, I saw some kind of odd visual effect.

If you keep seeing/hearing people who aren't there, perhaps you have the "sixth sense". Or perhaps you are schizophrenic.
...Or you might be developing some sort of psychic abilities... oooh!

Nah, sounds like paranoid schizophrenia to me, not some "psychic powers." It's all good, though.
