just letting people know...
the first seminar specifically for Women and Girls with ASD's will be held in Brisbane in 2009 on August 7th and the 8th.
Day 1 will be lectures and Day 2 will be a forum run by Professor Tony Attwood for women and girls with ASD's.

if you are interested you can go to the Asperger Services Australia website www.asperger.asn.au

The seminar is open to all - health professionals and workers, and women and girls (13 and over.)

I believe it is a hallmark event that actually shows the tide is turning in terms of much needed recognition and help for women and girls on the spectrum.

if you want to know more you can also pm me.

cheers from millie

Not sure if I'll have the money for this. But I'll look into it. Could be very interesting.

yes. i will be talking at it on the friday.....an example of the kind of lives some of us led without the benefit of a diagnosis. The life YOU DO NOT WANT YOUR ASD DAUGHTER TO HAVE!
You know ALL about that too, merle. As do so many here with their own stories and journeys, dx;ed and undx'ed, young and older.

I wish so many of you could come.

Perhaps Merle, I could read a short something out from you as an older woman, later in life dx and active wp member and mod, and autism activist from Oregon?
We need as many world role models for younger girls as we can pull together.

pm me if anyone wants to add their name to a list we could pin up in the seminar room - you know - ASD women from across the globe who are there in spirit? Might be a nice thing to do. :)

that is such a BRILLIANT idea, Millie! I am seriously considering speaking in Alaska on this same subject and I would do it there, too! I will send you a couple of pieces of my work via your email, Millie.

Someone already did. And you, and you, and you, and you were there.
(I feel like Dorothy, except that we're not in Kansas.)

Female Aspies? a different presentation?

Maybe you can skim through it and take the parts you like that fit with your presentation.

It's typical of the coincidences of my life that I finally figure out about AS and find the best known expert is in the same city.

^ yes...although I wouldn't want to use anyone's info without their permission. Sinsboldly is going to write something. How about you Tahitii?

I couldn't read everything out. But what I could do is get several or numerous short one page accounts from women and girls, and then put them together to be dispersed to the health professionals who are attending, and to other women and girls with ASD's. It is an idea, but it may be a good one. I am too absorbed in my own special interests to take on the task of sifting through the old threads. it would be too much work for me, especially with my delightful dysfunctions!

You're gonna get me started, then make me stop after a single page?
Can it be a 6-pitch font, with 0.2 margins?

^

I know. Constraining ourselves in such a manner is quite a task. I so enjoy other women with ASD's - we are all so naturally inclined to details and thoroughness.
pm me for my email address and I can send it out to you. Then you can hopefully send me a page and sadly...not an epic.

millie, are you presenting a subject on stage?

You have my permission to post quotes from any of my posts on WP, for whatever they're worth, if you wish. I wouldn't know how to choose one. Maybe the OP in the thread "NTs do things with conversation" or "Power Relations Unawareness - an Aspie trait?" The latter is actually something I'd like to transmit to (alert about) the worldwide Aspie population.
