Hey all. I'm just curious if anyone else is irresistably drawn to sparkly, shiny objects. I find myself standing in craft stores just turning their vials of beads and glitter flakes over and over, lost in the random patterns of light. I'm also guilty of buying small things which are rather useless and I really can't afford, just because they are too lovely to leave alone. Today, I found two pendants made of abalone shell. One was naturally scale-shaped, the other was rounded and carved with a cut out spiral. I had to have both of them, even though I know it was wrong to get them. We have limited resources right now, but something just...sigh.
I feel very guilty for doing it, but as soon as I got home, I found some string and looped the scale one around my neck and spent the last hour staring at it and turning it to make the colors glow.
I've also had a very stressful day, and still have a loooong night ahead of me before I can go to sleep.
My husband says I'm a human crow; my favorite green archer's hat is covered in shiny doodads like these shells. I have pop-top rings, sparkly glass beads, vintage glass buttons, even a blown fuse from my car. Is this an Aspie trait, or am I just silly?
Please advise.

I'm also drawn to shiny sparkly things. My boyfriend took me to hershey park I think a month or two ago, and as we were leaving, they were selling this sparkling jelly fish thing that was like a yo yo, it had a squishy feeling, but yet it sparkled, so after I got it, I couldn't put it down, it was so funny. I'm also addicted to blue glass, royal blue to be exact, I'm literally obsessed with it. I also love jewerly that sparkles, when I walk by a jewerly store, and they have their diamonds in those special lights, I literally stare like I'm a kid at a candy store haha. I don't know if its an autie/aspie trait, have you ever seen the movie SnowCake, with the lady with HFA? She was obsessed with sparkling things as well..

I am always drawn to sparkly things. There's this one store that I walk past, and sometimes they put handbags covered with gold sequins in the window. I always stop and stare as if mesmerized. When I was a kid, I loved this one knit cap that I had. It was made of wool, and came to a point, like an elf's cap. On the end were large, iridescent sequins. I also had a white sweater with multi colored rhinestones around the collar.

No, I haven't seen that film, but I'm so glad it's not just me that loves those jewelry lamps.
I preferr not to watch films about AS at present, I'm more at home with vintage animation like "Rock and Rule", etc.

I love all things shiny, especially fibre optic trees and labradorite.

I can be very easily distracted and drawn in - totally mesmerized.... usually something like a cool, shiny thingy... or a cartoon. To this day I'm a total Cartoon Connoisseur! If I could make a living doing cartoon reviews for different viewing audiences (or providing lots of crazy voices FOR them) I'd have a great job! :)

I love things that are shiny, and my son is extremely jealous because girl clothes always have lots more sparkly stuff on them than the boy clothes :( He likes that stuff much better than the football shirts and such, lol.

I like things that glow more than things that shine/sparkle.

I've been looking for some of the shinier stuff for him. My mom (who gets him clothes all of the time) is worried he will be teased if he wears things that are too shiny, so I have to remind her that clothes like that in the boys' section usually are there because other boys are wearing them too! That... and he won't care if he is being teased... he'd probably approach it like he does everything else, "so, if you don't like it, that would be why you aren't wearing it." -OR- "At least I get to pick out my own clothes, and I am quite happy with them, thank you." He has a great attitude, lol.

The only things remotely shiny in his size we have found are some windbreaker pants (or whatever they are called-jogging pants? lol... I dunno) and a silver Optimus Prime shirt :) We're looking for more stuff like that, and I think granny might just wind up buying some material and making him button up shirts or something with it :)

He's still jealous of his sister though, lol.

She's right. He will be teased, but he'll be teased anyway for something. So whatever. None of us are happy children, and few of us are happy adults, but eventually we're strong as coffin nails.

I always joke that I must have been a magpie in a previous life.
My home and wardrobe are a virtual shrine where all things sparkly are worshiped and admired.
This ranges from Swarvoski crystal collections to snowdomes that rain glitter upon minature figures and secret cities and I love all accessories etc that sparkle.
I especially enjoy Christmas baubles and ornaments of that kind
I will post apic of my xmas tree when I put it up - i cant wait

Just as uggestion that might work, maybe you can theme him- I have noticed certain themes have added sparkly accents such as Harry Potter T-shirts and Star Wars stuff. It might be a good comprimise
You should also be able to satisfy his passion for day glo if he has one within the fantasy/sci fi genre

Sparkly can be overwhelming for me. I like things that glow and things that are iridescent. Regular shiny is OK too.

nobodyzdream, there are lots of boys sneakers that have shiny and sparkly materials.
