Does anyone experience the same problem of waking up frequently before your alarm clock? It happens to me frequently, usually right before the alarm goes off (and I get up different times each day). Sometimes I could wake up 2 or 3 times during the night even if I go to bed when I'm very tired, which can be weird. Anyways, anyone experience the same problem? Any reasons as to why this could happen?

This is very common, among AS and NT. Some people's brains/bodies just know what time it is, and wake themselves up before the alarm clock. I kind of like it, actually, it's much less jarring than coming straight out of sleep to the terrible alarm noise.

I usually wake up about 5-10 minutes before the alarm clock. This is a good thing because, on the off chance that I am actually in a deep sleep, the sound of the alarm gives me a real fright!

I hate that I do this. I usually wake up 1/2 hour before my alarm goes off, no matter what time I set it. Then I can't get back to sleep because I'm worried about getting up.

If I tell myself what time I want to wake up, I'll wake up within 10 minutes of the time.

But the main reason that I wake up before my alarm clock, is that my cat has an uncanny sense of time. He won't let me sleep in a minute longer than I normally get up. He'll bite my feet like crazy and isn't pacified until I sit up and turn on the light.

I don't know why he thinks he's the sleep police but he's very determined at his job.

Yes, all the time. I always wake up one minute before the alarm is due to go off, no matter what time of day or how tired I was. The only time this doesn't happen is when I have to be up very very early in the morning, in which case I'll wake up every half an hour during the night.

Happens to me every day :)

Set alarm for 6:45 - wake up at 5:50-6:00 AM (not that I mind, I'm a morning person anywho)

This has happened to me before. I have woken up several days in a row right at the minute before the alarm is set to go off.

It happened to me today. My alarm was set for 8:00, and I woke up at 7:59.

I tend to get used to waking up at a certain time. So if I've had my alarm set to 8:00 for an entire week, I'll start waking up around 8:00 whether I set the alarm or not.

I use an alarm clock when I worry that I may not wake up on my own within a certain time frame, or when I have only a couple of hours to sleep before I need to get up again.

I found an alarm that makes several beeps, pauses, repeats the combination again just a little bit louder, on & on until it's pretty loud.

I agree that it's quite unpleasant to be jarred awake.

I often wake up on my own though, get up, walk around the house a bit and usually go back to bed to wait for the alarm clock to go off.

One thing I really despise at work are the nurses, aides and anyone else who walks into a patient's room, WHIPS on the lights while loudly exclaiming 'GOOD MORNING!"

Talk about insensitive!

If I work the early shift, either starting at 5am or 6am, I walk into the patient's room, get all my stuff set up with just the hallway light coming in or other ambient light.
Sometimes the patient wakes up, mostly they do not if they are actually asleep.

I then try to gently wake them up, which is hard to do for the older folks who are hard-of-hearing.
Sometimes I gently touch them on shoulder, even rocking them softly if needed.

I ALWAYS ask a patient about turning on the light... since I'm about to stick them with a needle, they are usually all-to-happy to have a light on! :P

In the army, they like to have this explosion of lights and shouting in basic training to get everyone up... SHOCK AND AWE!

I tend to wake up an hour before my alarm clock is set to go off. (And then I watch the clock. 'I have ___ more minutes. Go slower.') It's natural, I guess; I certainly don't aim to get up so early, and left to my own devices, I'm a much later sleeper. (Actually, left to my own devices, I stay up all night and sleep most of the afternoon; obviously, that clashes with the rest of my schedule.) It's nice to wake up normally instead of with a beeping sound; I appreciate adjusting.

i used to do this. i thought that it was because i hated the alarm clock sound so much it actually made me feel 'alarmed'. so eventually i stopped setting my alarm clock all together, that was over 10 years ago and it still works for me. i can always wake up at the desired time.

I usually wake up about 45 minutes before my alarm goes off. I'm always happy that I have a little more time to stay in bed, but I should probably just get up.

I always wake up before my alarm goes off... Then I go back to sleep, am woken by the horrible sound of my alarm, then I press snooze and go back to sleep... and repeat.

I actually torture myself in the morning with the repeated alarm, but I can't ever actually get out of bed... :?

I wouldn't call it a problem, but yes. I use the alarm as a fail-safe. I set it for the time I have to be awake by to not be late for work or school, but I often wake up earlier.

Also... my alarm is just my cell phone on vibrate.
