A question that has been haunting me for ages... well... actually since I've joined this place a few days or so ago... is this...

Am I an NT? If so, why? If so so, then should I stay or should I go?

You can check all my previous posts to get some background about me or I can repost everything here.

Okay, I'll try to summarize in as few a paragraphs as I can

I was diagnosed with ADD/HD way back sometime around the mid 90's.
I was diagnosed with ADD/HD ten years later.

I have always had issues concerning socializing, although on the surface I am thought to be gregarious, a 'real social kinda guy'. What they don't know is how I feel underneath  .

I have habits that I'm not sure are ADD/HD related but then I really don't care.

I don't see myself as AS and I'm not trying to be "part of the gang" by emulating folks here.

I'm different enough to know I can't live the sort of life I see most other folks live, yet every therapist I have ever seen (and I've seen plenty) has been sure I am not bi-polar, manic-depressive (my wife thought I was because of how quickly I could become frustrated and 'blow up', but then 5 minutes later carry on as though nothing had happened. Happy as a lark), clinically depressed, autistical anything, and so on.

In my life outside my little MacBook screen (they really are the best computers in the world you know  , I have OSX AND Windoze on mine :D ), I really don't care about the labels other than having nothing else to use to help others understand my differences (which generally doesn't work on regular folks  ), BUT... and it's a HUGE BUT!, I do have some concerns about belonging here.

I like it here. I like you all (I swear I'm seeking help for that! I just can't seem to quit coming here no matter how many things in my life I am putting off by spending hours reading and typing at WP :P )

But if you all see me as some sort of NT SPY working for the Department of Homeland Security and sub-office to promote NT Ignorance, then please tell me I've blown my cover and should now leave or else face the consequences! 8O :(

On the surface here, it sounds like ADD might just fit.

If you like coming here, I like having you here. There are NTs who post on this site, so don't let the possibility that you are one deter you.

You mentioned putting other things off to spend more time here. Maybe you need to try to set a limit on the length of time or something. Maybe schedule your time on WP for when there's a natural stopping point, like a TV show you're obsessed with and won't miss or something. I dunno.

You also said coming here is helping you understand yourself, so if I were you I'd keep coming here as long is it seemed helpful to me.

Hey, I did stop to cook dinner for my daughter and me! :P

But, she's in the shower so I can sneak back on and not get one of those, "Daaaaad, you're not on the computer AGAIN, are you?!".

I swear, sometimes she acts so mature and grown-up for a 14y.o. really puts me to shame

I really wouldn't want to leave. I am learning not just about myself, but others as well. I am very interested in human nature...

DANG!, she just got out of the shower... quick! if she asks, just back me up on this, "Oh the computer? I'm uh just uh doing homework! :D

back to what I was saying... human nature, I believe that understanding the variety of the human form can help me understand myself better and also accept myself more than I have before.

Anyway, I do like it here, thanks.

Having ADHD means not NT as it is neurologically different.
if relate to the things on the forum, there is no reason to stop using it,technically no one apart from Alex can say who comes on here or not,but it's not elitist in that way,no one can say are not allowed on here just because have a different diagnosis.
there's loads of different groups on here, including adhders, adhdXasd, kanners autists, aspergan autists,NTs,borderline aspergans/NT,if am remember correctly there are some [or used to be] rett autists on here to.

You've said plenty with that... I like you already! :D

For my daughter's transition to High School, I got her a MacBook also. I haven't partitioned the drive yet for windoze, but I will get that done soon.

This way, she isn't on my computer when I need it... like for checking out the posts on WP! :P

:D thankyou!! ! :D

I am also a diagnosed ADDer who is addicted to WP!
I have many AS traits, and there is not a single AS online test that I have taken that I have not passed....but there is a chance that if I tried to get diagnosed...they would say I wasn't an Aspie.

I have the social dysfunction and difficulty bonding with people, lack of eye contact, I don't drive, walk on my toes, act like a teenager and I am 32, ummm have somewhat narrow interests, have been prone to meltdowns....OCD tendancies.....etc...etc...etc...

the things I don't have are rigid routines, monotonous diet and clothing (except I have to cut the necks out of every shirt I wear because they choke me, and I have to wear cotton or other soft natural fibers because I will be constantly aware of every teensy synthetic fiber poking at me.

Some of my traits seem practicly opposite of what one might expect from an AS person....as exhibited by my complete lack of organizational skills.

nice to have more ADDers in tha howse!

Thanks!

You seem like a pretty fun person... figures... you're from Texas!

I do miss the Lone Star State fairly often.

HEY! I just realized... "the LONE star state!"... THAT'S where the Aspie commune should be!

Quick, someone get Anna45 (I probably got that wrong) on the line and tell her the news... There's a state already named for Aspies! :D

I am really not all that fun in person. I am usually socially withdrwawn and difficult to get along with. I usually end up scaring away anyone who tries to talk to me.
I am also not very Texasy. My dad is Czech/American..(his family settled here in the 20's and growing up, my older relatives spoke Czech at the dinner table, and were always visiting Prague. There is rumor of some Gypsy heritage that is only enforced by the fact that we are all short and swarthy with big noses and a very strong musical bug.
My mom is from New York.
People frequently ask me if I am from Canada, because I don't have a Texas accent and am always saying Oh-aye..

There are quite a few Aspie types who come to my venue...(which is a place that only ADDers could have come up with)
It seems to be a comfortable haven for all-inclusive no-pressure social interraction...We have a zillion books and single-person games and places where people can quietly curl up or be as social or as anti-social as they like.

When I said you seemed like a fun person, I didn't exactly mean skipping along holding hands with large lollipops in the other giggling silly-like (is there any other way to giggle?) with big obnoxious cheshire-cat smiles plastered on our faces kind of fun.

I just thought the looks of your place, your looks and attitude here, all seemed like the makings of an interesting person who could be fun to be with.
Not that I'm proposing here, I know you already have someone :D

You sound aspie to me Poopylung stuffing or you're somewhere on the spectrum.

Wsmac, you're an NT if you're not on the spectrum but it seems like people are changing the definition of what an NT is because I am now hearing an NT is someone who doesn't have ADD/HD, anxiety, peronality disorders, mental illnesses, etc. So now I don't know anymore.

TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH likedcalico, this post is already 5 DAYS OLD!

How DARE you let someone suffer so long without a proper diagnosis! :P

I took one of those online tests posted here and it said I have Aspie traits... does that count?

I DON'T WANNA BE NT!

I don't care anymore actually, I just feel so comfortable here.
I have never considered myself to have AS and I do have two confirmed diagnosis of ADD/HD ten years apart.
I do know that the descriptions of some behaviours and emotions here fit me to a 'T'.
I do know that my social interactions match up with those described by other folks here.

Plus,

Alex hasn't kicked me off the site yet! :P :D
