I've been wondering if anyone likes hearing particular sounds.

We like certain smells and tastes, does this go the same with hearing with some of you?
I know I like hearing certain sorts of sounds. I like the dial-up internet connection sound, but since I have broadband, I don't hear it anymore :(

Oh I think loosing the connection noise for a massive speed increase is a fair trade.

I don't know if I stim by noises, but I make noises with my mouth because I like the way they feel.

I love the sound of the tin whistle though...

When I am wearing my winter coat, I'll often play with the zipper, clicking the pull against the zipper body. It drives my wife nuts. When we are driving somewhere, she would always grab my hand and say "Play with your spaceship or something." (I tend to keep a toy spaceship on me to keep my hands busy when there is nothing else)

What's with the 4's? When I use a paper towel dispenser in a public restroom I have to pull the knob a multiple of 4 times. I normally do 8 pulls, but if I miss and do 9 I have to keep on going to 12.

I agree with Scoots on this. Most printers make that
vrmmmmm-scan-vrmmmm-scan sound. This isn't
note worthy of a sound!

But....The "DDDDTT-ddddttttt-rhytmical sound is
visual and pleasant! Too bad the Apple II-Dot matrix
was so BIGGGG!

Sincerely,

Do I ever! I used to be more self-conscious about it, but I've decided that I like it, so whatever - hey, maybe I'll improve my musical skills from it. I also have a friend that does it sometimes which made me less concerned about it. I still don't do it in front of most people since I don't want to annoy them with it. My mom always used to hum/whistle a lot, and although I can't whistle, I do hum a lot. One thing I've been doing a lot lately is making clicking sounds with my tongue. I'm starting to figure out how to get different sounds and learning how to make "beats" of sorts...keeps me entertained. I think a lot of it is due to my car stereo going out, which makes driving very boring. Other than that there's some sounds that I just really enjoy and I'll listen to/make repeatedly, the rythms can be very entrancing. Someone mentioned zippers, I'll second that.

Dot Matrix printers are great, too. Someone's actually made a synthesizer out of them (which has been exibited in art galleries). You can check it out (with audio samples) here. Some more stuff.

Sometimes loud sounds annoy me, but I also have a tendency to listen to music really loud. I like electronic music, which I think with the repetitive beats could be considered a kind of stimming. I listen to a lot of different styles, but lately I've been into really fast and/or complex stuff - breakcore/hardcore/speedcore/IDM. Sometimes I just listen to it, sometimes it gives me some motivation/energy and sometimes I really get into it and just spazz out. Good times...

Evil washing machine in unbalanced spin cycle.

It sets up this syncopated thing in my brain and I am struck dumb and blind and just get completely off on it.

God I love random, syncopated rhythms!
