I know it's meant to sound positive and fresh, but something about the popular phrase 'move on' unsettles me.Maybe it's because I find it has connotations about aspects of the modern world that I have difficulty relating to,e.g. to me
'move on' is most often used by self-help gurus and suchlike when it implies
a) You must impose changes (not easy for anyone with AS)
b) You must be ruthless and discard any friends that are not good enough for
you and make a new set of friends (Apart from being rather arrogant, why do
they assume it's a foregone conclusion that friendships can be established
and broken so easily )
c) You must forget the past (but I need to remember all the mistakes I made
in the past in order to learn from them)
c) You must be more ambitious (ok,but we can't all be leaders. Those who
support in the background can be just as important)

Perhaps I'm being oversensitive and should just move on.
Aaaarghhh !

In my experience "forget the past" isn't literal, it means don't let bad experiences stop you from living your life.

The phrase I hate the most is:

"I'm not being racist but ..........."

Whenever I hear that I get the urge to cover my ears because I know there is always something racist following it.

It is one of those things I can never understand about people; why don't they just say something like "I'm going to say something racist".

"I'm not being racist but ....." invariably marks them as both a racist and a liar.

"Let's move on" can also mean starting a new topic (say, in a college class).

Actually THAT isn't true!

A lot of spanish speaking countries had weak economies and the EU hesitated to let them in. Yet mention that to many, and SOME idiots figure spanish=Mexican=Race+disparaging comment=racism! I have a book, written by a JEWISH person no less that says something like...."After determining they are not the mental defective known as an antisemite, they will start saying antisemetic things". The first phrase is almost an exact quote, and the second only conveys the idea they do. I could never understand that! Basically it says "After they have determined that neither believes the case, they will admit to one another that it is, and they know that it is, certainly true"!

And saying that "A lot of spanish speaking countries had weak economies and the EU hesitated to let them in" is NOT RACIST! It is true and FACT! That some may distort several facts, and change the meaning of the word racist to CALL it racist doesn't make it so! Racism is hatred or disparaging remarks about a race intentionally targeted at the race that AREN'T TRUE! HECK, I could say things about blacks that describe their race that were originally written to DESCRIBE their race (such as dark skin and broad noses), and be called racist EVEN though there is NOTHING untrue, or disparaging about it, and it is not said out of hatred.

HECK, people have EVEN been called racist after noting how many people in sports and music are black! It has gotten to where you have to act like blacks, and perhaps all "minoritys" are INVISIBLE because, to say ANYTHING brands you as a racist!

If I said that Caucasions have skin that can often appear almost white if they aren't exposed to light, can have different color hair and eyes, and noses can vary from long to pug and narrow to kind of middle sized, and are probably distinguished most by the fact that so much can be so varied, is THAT racist?

The Phrase "Let's move on" raises my hackles for some reason.

Well, for all I know, you are a minority and your observations have been(excuse the term) colored by your experience. What I said is certainly true.
