I often find myself drawn to clothing with different patterns on them, but I find myself especially fond of stripes. I can even remember gazing at people's clothing as a child and being accused of stareing at them, when I was really looking at the stripes on their clothes. (Although I have since ceased this kind of behavior). For example, if I had a shirt like this one,

Or this,

I would sometimes play around with it, moving it around and manipulating it so that the pattern seems like its "alive". I would also do things like pull the shirt over my head and look up at a light, so it seems that I'm almost immersed in the pattern as the light shines through the cloth. If left alone to these things, I would be preoccupied for quite a while. I'm not sure if this is just a wierd thing that I do, or if it is some sort of ingrained visual stim. I was hoping that some of you could offer your opinion. It would also be nice to know if someone else does something similar to this

Most patterns in clothes (stipes, plaid, or anything really that repeats a lot) gets me staring at it and "figuring it all out" - esp. the tricky patterns. I have also been accused of staring, so I mostly look when the person's back is to me. I also used to stare at shoes a lot. And anything that spins. Or anything that makes ripples in water....

And I thought I was alone in this!! ! I've gotten so bad at times, I'll sit in the public restroom longer than needed just to figure out the pattern on the floor and walls! I always have to make sense of patterns. I cannot help myself!! !

Mmm, stripes.

I'm utterly fascinated with bright or visually interesting clothing on other people. I've been accused of staring too.

I love patterns, like plaids, checks, stripes, and polka dots. My favorite, however, is stripes. I always own at least three striped blouses or shirts in my wardrobe at a time. I also, when watching movies, always notice if there is striped upholstery on the furniture, or if the drapes in the room are striped. Sometimes I miss the action of the movie, because I am busy staring at some pattern in the background.
