Hi. Sorry if someone's already posted about this, but you can't do a keyword search on the site, so I was wondering...

Do any of you experience OCD tendencies that just get worse as you get older? If so, why do you think that is?

It was recently suggested to me (by 2 different professionals) that I probably have AS--mainly because of how OCD I can get while working on a project--particularly for school. I'm in a grad program, and while I might have been perfectionist or slightly obsessive in the past, these traits weren't crippling until grad school. Is this "normal" for people with AS, or has grad school just been chipping away at the remaining shreds of my sanity?

Your comments are much appreciated.

p.s. By "with age," I mean during adulthood.

Mine have. I've always been pretty focused when doing something that I want to do, but I get VERY upset if I am interrupted anymore, and have become a bit more of a slacker in many other areas as well. I used to be calmer (not much, but there was a difference) about interruptions and such. I think over the years I've just become accustomed to how I do things, and I'm more adamant about getting things done certain ways.

Remember that people on the autistic spectrum get misdiagnosed with OCD a lot, OCPD is what describes what we actually have. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocpd

Ah, I see you are looking at it from the perspective of one who is still at school, (though obviously older than when an infant), as oppossed to someone like me ho is 48.

So, from your age group, yes, it does get worst, I would say up to around mid-20s.

From my age group, no, it gets better, it sort of eases off as it doesnt become so important and you also learn a way to behave that your compultions are happy with so are free to not worry about things.

am not sure if what am have can be described as ocd type traits or part of autism, either way, don't think they haven't changed.
it is said that the ocd traits are caused by anxiety,am do not understand anxiety so cannot judge what it is,for am,it seems to be about routine, because when it becomes part of routine, its impossible to stop doing it,and it causes MDs if do not get to do them, but when staying at another house, am cannot apply the same routine there as they are different,so have a different inhouse routine [although still have shopping days, pizza day, fluffybums 'steakday' etc as well],do not think about the other houses' inhouse routines when there as they do not apply.

Well great, now I know I'm just losing my sanity then, since I'm 33.

I think anorexia/bulimia is a form of OCD, and I struggled with that for over a decade. If I consider that, I'd say I've chilled, since I am better.

Now my mother, maaaaan. She's classic OCD with the handwashing, germ phobia, needing to repeat phrases for comfort...and it is quite debilitating. She has progressively gotten worse, and despite our urging, she refuses to seek help.
