One of my obsessions/focuses is working out. I exercise 3 - 4 hours a day both for pleasure and because exercise is a coping mechanism of mine. I started weightlifting and running in the 8th grade because I had a poor self-image, and because I wanted to toughen up to beat the crap out of all the kids whom tormented me endlessly. When I am working out, it is the only time of the day I can free my mind from the constant stressors piled upon me by my job and AS life. I still have a poor self-image and no self-esteem, but at least I feel strong. I am fascinated by my "stats", i.e., my bench press, my run times, number of push-ups, etc.

I performed 50 pull-ups in one effort on the bar outside of the gym this afternoon. I was just wondering if anyone out there has me beat? Can anyone out there beat me?

D

I execise daily. It helps maintain desirable brain chemistry. I can't do pull-ups due to issues with my shoulders. I raise light weights above my head 3 dozen times a day to address those issues.

I have been focusing on anaerobic exercises for the last few weeks and believe that it helps a lot in alleviating the effects of a meltdown. There is something about stimulating muscle growth that just causes the brain to sleep which makes all the difference when a meltdown hits.

My sensory troubles transfer over to my physical being; I can keep on going till my body collapses -- all I notice is my heartbeat and the increase in adrenaline before I fall over (my level of fear increases exponentially too). Hence, I've got you "beat" by a lot.

I can do 100 now without trouble; I just hate the feeling of my heart beating harder and faster (I'm extra sensitive to the "feeling" of certain internal organs).

I did about 23 chin-ups the other day in one single effort. So I'm almost half way there. I weigh 190 lbs though. So that's a lot of weight to pull.

50 is a high number. Pretty damn impressive. Must have strong arms and back and not weigh that much. How much do you weigh?

It's important that you develop and exercise program that you enjoy or you won't go back and do it again tomorrow. I told this to one guy and got a bike. Another got a weight machine and a kick-ass stereo and pumped iron to loud disco music.

If I cheat then I can do some thing like twenty. Strict form, well, fourteen or fifteen. Not bad for a geezer ( I'm fifty one )

Once I could do a one arm chin with my right arm...Not with my left though.

I wish I had your discipline :) That's impressive!

Working-out is something I've started to do accidentally. When on the phone or thinking or watching TV and I get bored I'll notice than i'm doing crunches or push-ups or lifts. It's strange that my focus ability seems to strengthen when this happens - not to mention I'm starting to get "pipes" :D

It is a good anti-distractor (is that a word?)

It's boosted my self-confidence as well, but family members and friends are starting to comment on my "random" work-outs :P

I too have been working out since I was real little. Now I go to a gym at 3-4 times a week. Everybody calls me a gym nazi haha. I usually do 500 situps every other day, I'm obsessed with six packs haha.

I've been doing the same routine for about 4 years now. It exercises my back, shoulders, abdominals, and probably some other sections. I originally did it for training of the racing sport that I use to compete in. Now I do it mostly for stress reduction, enjoyment, and to maintain my internal constitution.

If I knew of something to do chin-ups/pull-ups on, I'd see how many I could do. What do people normally use for this while at home?
