Is it likely that if I contact the psychology department of some local university they'll be able to match me with a graduate student who will be willing to evaluate me for Asperger's Syndrome?

most likely. That is what I have right now, and on a sliding scale fee. I only pay $12 per appointment :D Hard part is finding someone who knows anything about it.

I did pretty good as I am pretty good at noticing how NTs behave and mimicking the same but the test doesn't really show how lethal and intense the social awkwardness can be. I'm not sure how much I am getting from Simon Baron Cohen. Is there anyone else who is an expert on aspies?

If there are research hospitals in your area, call them and ask if they are running any studies about autism/Asperger's. Many times they will evaluate you for free as part of these studies. I tried to join one in the city where I work, but they wouldn't accept me because my IQ was too high - they were only accepting adults with IQ 80-125. My IQ is at least 137.

You could always become a Canadian citizen.... our health care puts the Americans to shame. ;)

Actually, I'm serious! Consider moving here... it may be worth it in the long run!

I live in Mississippi. An AS consultant in my area evaluated me for free - she said it was paid for by the taxpayers.

If you live in the US and are working or willing to work then you can go to Voc Rehab office and they can send you for free evaluation and training. If you aren't working you will be required to get a job if they give you services.

It is *extremely* unlikely that a graduate student would be qualified to recognize/diagnose Asperger's in an adult. This course of action is all-too-likely to just end up causing you another level frustration and self-doubt.
