The best is when it's wedged in a corner, though.

I have not tried specifically designed weighted blankets but do like two duvets for the weigted effect.
I also like to have my large 4-foot teddy bear on top of me as I lay on my front in bed.

I like to put my hand between the end of the matteress and the headboard, or between the two seat cusions of the sofa.

Over the past couple of years or so, I've made myself three heavy blankets and it has made a big difference being able to sleep under them. It's not so much the warmth but the feeling of being enclosed that is good.

I sleep better when rolled up in a few blankets, under a mountain of blankets. I always wake up a bit sweaty from the heat but at least I sleep and that's all that matters! When I was young I liked to have a mattress over me, but grew out of it.

I finally got the weighted blanket! It's worth its weight in gold. It's not hot, but it weighs 10% of my weight (polypellets). I sleep so solid, I didn't know it was possible to be that solidly asleep. I always floated near awareness. And I sleep solid every time.

lol i have pretty much 3 different kind of sleeping patterns, usually takes me till 2 am to find the right position though. (3-4 hours) gotta also either sleep on floor and or coach. (matresses dont work for me)

1. 2 pillows under my head, 1 huge pillow to chest hug while i sleep and 3-4 blankets on top of me, the comforter blanket has to be the top blanket. (usually i wake up in a major heat sweat.

2. sit up against a coach end (or wall) and use couple blankets, and sleep with a wall or something against me.

3. use a pad on the floor and sleep on the floor.

Thes a thread like this somewhere else recently if I'm not mistaken. Heres some places that sell weighted blankets, vests, even shorts.

http://www.jumpusa.com/xvest_weight_vests.html
the ones for "Sports" are sometimes less expensive and shop around as prices vary WIDELY.

I actually make weighted blankets, so if anyone would be interested I can most likely make one for a whole lot less than what you'll find anywhere else (the expensive part is those damn poly pellets). I started making them for my Aspie son (now six years old), and it really helps him sleep better. Anyway, send me a message if you have questions. I'd like to do this as a business some day: make weighted blankets for people who really need them, at a decent price. (I'm a stay-at-home Dad who sews. How's that for going against type?)

Tell me more!

I have been trying to get my mother (also a sewing machine  ) to make us one. They are alot of money and really do not look like a huge amount of work (oh how I wish I could use that new sewing machine sat in the back room!)...

Any idea how much you WOULD charge for one?

My daughter absolutely loved the weighted lap pad and currently takes that to bed with her (instead of school, which is why we bought it to begin with)...

as for anyone looking for this type of thing, we order from:

http://www.abilitations.com/

pretty amazing things in their catalogue!

Abilitations has some fabulous stuff, but most of it is quite expensive, especially the weighted items.
What sort of fabric would you want the blanket made from? Fleece would make a nice winter weighted blanket, as would flanel, or I could make a plain-jane weighted part with a wintery duvet to go around it. How much weight would we be talking? (Apparently 10% of body weight is kinda sorta the way to go, although I tend to go a bit heavier.)

'm currently trying to get a grant to get my daughter a "Foof Chair" her occupational theraptist suggested it cause it will let her SINK into it instead of her usual burrowing under the couch cushions. I'm getting one thru "Comfy Sacks" cause they are the only people who will ship to Alaska.

I'm gonna get her the 7.5 foot one so she can use it like a bed.

That touched some memories, I did crawl halfway under the couch cushions as a child.

I still do that if the position of the bed allows it.

I used to always lose my blankets growing up, or spin them 180 degrees around and end up with the blanket cover clips at the head end, which drove me insane since if they were brushing my skin I would not sleep out of .. well I don't know why but it just drove me insane. Now I sleep with a sheet and two blankets and am doing much better.
