First, what is the exact profession of someone who would be able to give an Asperger's diagnosis?
Also, for people who have gone and gotten one, how exactly is it done? do they just ask you questions or actually observe you? They both would seem really weird.

I think that there are occasionally threads on how people were diagnosed. Here's one from not long ago..

Also, I think you can Google for facilities that test for AS and see what they do. There do not seem to be standardized approaches. Here's something from the Mayo Clinic on how they diagnose AS.

If you want to get a diagnosis, make sure you choose a psychologist that uses childhood history evaluations. One that diagnoses through observation alone will usually screw up when it comes to diagnosing adults. Some might also employ something similar to the 'Aspie quizzes' that you find online.

I find it to be rather telling that the Mayo clinic link keeps on mentioning 'Your child, your child, your child' as if adults with AS don't exist, when they're supposed to be one of the leading authorities on medicine. That should let you know just how few doctors are willing to look twice at an adult who thinks they have AS.
