When I was young I definitely had worse problems with crowds, loud sound, etc. than I do now. I hated going to Disney World when I was 9 for that sort of reason. I would have to cover my ears at school assemblies that involved lots of cheering/chanting and sometimes had to fight tears and nobody understood why I was like that.
Now I think I've long since grown out of it. Heck, where I work, I am in a pumicing room just outside a larger room with lots of machinery. And the conveyor/dryer I use is even louder and is turned on most of the time. If that gives you an idea of how much more easily I deal with it now.
Loud Noises can certainly still cause me problems, but it's certain KINDS of noises that cause me more trouble than others. The sound of a crowd of people is one of those, especially if they are in a restaurant or bar watching a sporting event. The cheers and exclaimations still give me panic attacks. Other noises that give me anxiety are scraping sounds, loud jangling sounds, and thunder (not as much as when I was young, but it's still there).
While it's not as bad as it was when I was young by any stretch, it still has a profound effect on my moods and can cause anxiety or even panic at times.
