I've noticed that a lot of times when the AS characteristic "lack of imagination" is mentioned, many people say that is one that does NOT fit them.

Obviously there is a reason it is considered an AS symptom, but considering the number of Aspies it doesn't fit, do you think it's really a relevant symptom? (I'm not sure what "relevant" would mean, but do you get my point?)

Of course, there is the whole thing about AS "sub-divisions", and one of them being an escape into fantasy, so maybe that's it...???

Many aspies are said to think in pictures, rather than words.

Imagination is the ability to form mental images.

The idea that aspies lack imagination is patently absurd.

I am constatnly visualising things...i have a very creative imagination.....the only things I lack imagination regarding are things that have to do with going beyond certain boundaries...if that makes sense...

Here is a scenario in which I lack imagination:

I can spend all day fantasizing about different dolls I want to make, but when told to select something to make for dinner, I will be utterly stumped. In a grocery store filled with food, I will have no idea what to buy...(i have worked on this..and gotten slightly better)..though i always get the same thing...i have learned it is better than not getting anything at all...

Also...I can do creative writing..I write songs..and poems and um...diatribes....but I am horrible at forming and executing plots.
Every time Flakey and I have to do a puppet show (which is not often, but it does happen)
Flakey has to write the script, because i will be totally stumped..Often times it is because there is too much mental imput to process...if that makes sense...

I would like to say that I'm a very creative person. I can do all types of drawings and digital paintings, just using my imagination. I've come to the conclusion that I needed to create a door sign, after living in my flat for nearly a year. That's apartment to the Rednecks. I've found a picture of a vintage bus that I've painted, last spring, and I've put Shelby's (my name) Flat, #303, over the top of the image.

I have a vivid imagination and in the beginning having read all those descriptions of AS I thought I couldn't have AS because I didn't suffer from a lack of imagination while an aspie, according to those descriptions is characterized by a very poor imagination.

I have a very vivid imagination. I can see stories in my head like a movie, my problem is writing them down. The words somehow never fit. I also used to draw a lot, but now I lack the time to do that.

Yep aspies sure can be imaginative. There's 2 aspies on that tricky creative music course I'm on, including myself...

I both think in pictures and in words. I write lots of poetry and do both graphics and sculpture.

What is your problem? Are you saying people with AS don't have imaginations?

And enough of your sterotypes. Dan Akroyd is known to have AS and he does acting. Steven Speilburg has it too and he is a director. Do they both not have it?

I have met a few aspies online who were in their teens and they had girlfriends. I think very few get one that young. It's either luck or their social skills were good enough they were able to get one. I would have been lucky if another quirky guy was new in my school and we were a match and started dating. But that never happened. If it did, would that mean waa laa I don't have AS anymore because I met a guy at 17 and started dating him?

This be a great thread for my last boyfriend to see because then he would see that other aspies do to have imaginations or unless he thinks they aren't AS either.

Very simplistic of you. There are many people out there with AS that can be creative and imaginative.
I'm pretty darned sure that there are a few actors, and talented ones at that, who are also AS. Some actors are very awkward socially in real life situations.
I, however unsuccessful, have been at the girl stuff since end of 2006. I'm 18 atm.
Real people with AS can do this stuff with persistance and hard work - we are a high functioning kind. Awareness is the key... and it's if you can find out how to use that awareness... we are aware.
I've stumbled across a few people who suspect Quintin Tarantino, one the most talented film-makers in the industry, of having AS... I can't back that one up lol but I'm pretty sure he may well be... socially he reminds me of myself in some ways...

I sure as hell ain't NT though dude...
I was 'professionally diagnosed' as an aspie... we can make it buddy.
What are you trying to get across here? I'm sure I, like many others on this site, are professionally diagnosed, and I'm not writing off those who aren't, just making my point.
