Anybody else get fed up with being told to cheer up, or why do you look so serious?

Why do we have serious faces?

We often do, because we are fed up. We are sick to death on occasions of feeling or being bashed around... we have a right to look a bit p***** off from time to time.

As i said in a previous post, i just used to think that was how my face was; i just had a serious face. I also think i internalized people's reactions: they would say cheer up so many times i came to believe that i wasn't cheery, and i came to think of myself as a negative, depressive person, which fundamentally i'm not.
Its a relief to know better now.

I usually don't have as serious a face as most AS people seem to be cemented to. I smile a lot more than I frown. The only time I don't smile is in photos, but just because I don't photograph well anyway.

My poor Beloved - even after 29 years of marriage - keeps concluding that I am dissaproving of her or something she does. Sometimes it's impossible to convince her otherwise. :-/

I try not to wear my "thinking" face around sensitive folks. ;-)

I often have a serious face on, especially when I was a kid. I don't make my face do any sort of expression usually so my face just goes like that. I could be having the time of my life and still have that face on. I move my face more often now, but it's like I have to make myself to smile whenever I see someone I know. I usually have my serious face on when I: am feeling emotionless, concentrating hard on someone, am absorbing knowledge, or looking around somewhere fasinating such as a museum (you know, the films, the activity things, exploring around while NOT being rushed, that sort of thing).

i have a serious face often, too. but it's not because i would be depressed or under any negative emotion. i have blocked out most of the emotions, positive and negative ones altogether. i just don't have reasons to be smiling but i also don't have reasons to be crying, so i don't think it's that bad. i prefer it that way.

Yes, when I'm happily lost in thought, people say I look sad and ask me what's wrong. I've also been told, "You're so serious. You never laugh or smile," or, "Do you ever smile?" or even, "Don't look so sad all the time. It won't get you the sympathy you're looking for." . . . wtf????

Yes. It's ridiculous how often I'm told to 'smile' or to 'stop frowning'. The corners of my mouth are naturally turned down, so unless I plaster a fake smile on my face it always looks like I'm frowning. But it's usually just a neutral face, neither happy nor sad.

Are all of you Aspie? I am told I never smile so I make myself and have become so so at doing it and manage to relax my face enough to have it look natural. Sometimes it even is natural. But when stressed the smile leaves and does not return to often. Why is this? I usually don't care if someone tells me to smile. I do admire others smiles it is beautiful and wish I could be like that too!

Yeah. When I was younger everyone used to tell me that i'd look so much prettier if I didn't look so miserable all the time and smiled. It's funny 'cos nowdays I can't even keep a straight face walking down the street!

I just finished a course the final practical and everyone was crying and hugging. I sat there looked like a crazy twit or something. I don't understand why all the tears? I was happy and stunned I passed. I leave the class feeling like freak as I did not make the connections the others did I missed my chance. Why am I so weird? I think people think I am nuts! I was told I am a living paradox. I am a Critical Care Paramedic and a Police reserve. I have always had difficulty understanding people yet I can predict their movements and reactions based on body language? So what is wrong with me ? I seem to never fit anywhere and was deeply depressed as a kid. Not now but definately still don't fit and apparently I still am socially handicapped. I am married though.

Why do people, strangers, no less, demand that other people smile? I've never had any urge to tell someone to smile. Is it my job to be better scenery for them? I don't get it.
