I had my second meeting with my childhood psychologist today. We discussed more things relating to personality.

For my next meeting with him we get down to buisness, as he will then focus on specificly what he gathered from todays session and the session I had on 7/27.

I asked him what his preliminary thoughts are what is all up with me

Right now he feels I have the following

-Aspergers co-morbid with Tourettes with/
-Underlying OCD tendancies with anxiety issues

Stay tuned!

Same as my first DX, but whereas your OCD traits are underlying, mine were "more extreme that anyone I have ever seen."

My second DX was the same, but added Savant Syndrome and the doctor concured with the first one about the OCD part, but didn't say the same exact think.

Both doctors had made the Asperger's and OCD DX's within a half hour of meeting me, but the Tourettes took a little longer. The first doctor DX'd it on the 2nd appointment, but the 2nd doctor took a little longer because I have also had seizures.

My GP (who I started seeing after my first DX) DX'd Autism/Anxiety Disorder as well (some doctors believe Autism is an anxiety disorder).

OCD tendancies are very common with AS, as well as Tourettes.

What Tourettes symptoms do you have?

He picked up on it with out me even having to tell him I have it. He said I was doing a clicking thing with my cheeks when he was talking to me.

I didn't know I was doing it at all.

Anyways, going back along way, I can say I have this for at least 15 years since my original psychological report made mention of facial tics.

I knew I had tics, but the first time I really became aware of them was on my 18th birthday back in 1997 which was also thanksgiving that year. Back then I had an eye blinking thing (my mom managed to even catch in on video tape) and on of my cousins started yelling at me to stop it since it was disturbing her.

After I found out about AS, I mistook them for stims, but then near the end of the fall semester last year I put two and two together and found out for what they really were.

Anyway... My tics

- I still do the eye blinking thing, and they are triggered by me concentrating/looking at something
- I also have a humming/grunting tic that is my most common one. When I do it, I often find myself lifting my head up before letting one out.
- One tic that has developed as of lately involves me making a lugie and letting come out of my mouth just to the point of where it will roll down my chin, then I suck it back in. I'm not the best at judging when it's going to fall, and as a result, my shirt has gotten wet quite a bit.

They may be just labels, but for me their answers to questions.

I do the eye blinking thing at times, but usually I squeeze them shut really tight. I am always contorting my face and nose twitching when talking to people. I also pull at my clothes and bite myself. I am on Nicotine therapy for the tourette's right now because some of my ticks are very severe and gran-mal in appearance. I jerk and contort and scream and groan and even rip things when that happens. I echo myself A LOT when talking, another tic. I have had a lot of symptoms come and go since I was about 15 (it started with blinking, nose twitching, clothes chewing and head banging). The nicotine therapy (lozenges) helps a lot until I am in stressful situations, then it is less effective. My doctor is looking into putting me on Mecamylamine.

I agree that some people think that a DX merely labels you and they do not understand that it answers questions and even can get help with certain things that some people would not be able to get without a DX.
