Not about your "condition" or "diagnosis". About you personally. Doctors have said the following about me:

One said that I'd make a good scientist. How the HELL did he know that? We only spoke for a few minutes and we didn't even talk about science or anything even remotely related. DISCRIMINATION!

The one I'm seeing now said that I'm a very verbal person and had I thought of a job that required verbal skills. (I said something like, "If it involved a disaster or some international incident!")
He also said that he believes I'm of at least average intelligence. Yay!

Another one I spoke to said that I'm "an excitable gal at the best of times". Sad but true. :D

One assured me that I had strengths. Like I didn't know that. Did he think that I had no self-esteem?

Are you talking about psychiatrists or MDs?
Last year I had problems when I got really dizzy for no reason and threw up a bunch of times. (In retrospect, it was probably severe anxiety). But I felt horrible and was afraid for my life. Anyway, I went to see a doctor and had some basic tests done. They came back normal. I asked him what should be done next and he said "You know what, I think you're a perfectly healthy young woman; there's nothing wrong with you." I was so choked! It was like he was calling me a liar. I felt so stupid.

Well, they always try to focus on the positive, that's their job. Their clients typically spend more than enough time focusing on the negative.

Positive is so relative. Like morbidity. Not everyone thinks flowers and rainbows and teddy bears and people winning the football game are positive. Some people like mortuaries, black clothes, disasters and stories about people coming out of depression. :D

Well, I wasn’t thinking along the lines of flowers and rainbows and teddy bears. More like “You'd make a good _______,” as opposed to “I’m no good at anything,” or “at least average intelligence,” as opposed to “I’m stupid,” you know, the common negative messages that so many people hear over and over again, especially from themselves.

My psychologist says I probably have a high IQ (I have no clue what my IQ is) and that my social skills are high for someone with AS. I manage eye contact and speak clearly and effectively. My main downside is my extremely monotone voice. It is the one thing she wants me to improve the most, and I should be able to start speech thereapy next month at the university. She says that she enjoys seeing me since I have a high interest to learn everything I can about AS. Not everyone goes with it like me apparently. I only want to improve myself enough for I can get a decent job for later in life and a girlfriend in the sometime immediate future, and I know niether will happen if I keep with all of my AS habits. Still trying to decide what I'm willing to compromise.

They've (head doctors and therapists) all said I'm "highly intelligent"; which was due to my overly formal speech and my innate ability to parrot speech that I've heard intellectuals purvey.

None knew I was autistic (barring my current psychic).

I'm not that smart.

Danielismyname, how did your psychic guess you were autistic? (And are you sure you are? Do you mean you have AS? Is there a difference? I'm so confused!)

AiMaiMii, my shrink also said, half-jokingly, when I said I had taken IQ tests before, and that taking another one really wouldn't tell them anything about me that they already knew anyway, "Let me guess... you got like in the 200s."

I told him. ;) I saw everyone for OCD. He always thought I had Asperger's disorder but he neglected to tell me (OCD was at the forefront of treatment).

I'm classically autistic; which is like AS but only worse. Autism has the verbal impairment, a greater severity of the usual symptoms and 70 percent of those with it have cognitive impairment in other areas ("mental retardation").

I don't talk to anyone but those I'm close to and professionals one on one (speech therapy at an early age made me able to do such).

The last visit I had with a doctor, he asked me what my operation was like. I told him about the scars, what they were for, how the operation was done, etc.... I even told him the nickname and proper name for the type of operation. He seemed impressed! I asked him if he expected that, or ever had anyone describe it in such detail before. He said something like "NO, but I'm glad you explained it!"! I have had doctors ask me if I was a doctor.

So Ana54,

If the IQ test wouldn't tell them what they already knew, maybe you should have taken it!

OH, and your tagline "Arbeit macht frei
durch Krematorium Nummer Drei.
" doesn't exactly sound positive, or like one with self esteem. Maybe the shrink saw it.
