Hello, this is my first post. Anyway, I was diagnosed at age seven by a psychologist. However, a neurologist at the same time said that I could not be conclusively diagnosed with AS or NT. I am quite high-functioning overall, but anyway, here is my account.

You know how the "experts" always say that people with AS have no ability to read faces? Well, when I was about two years old, whenever my mom looked sad, I would look at her face and say something to the effect of, "Why are you sad Mom? Momma, be happy, you're happy Mom!" This seems to go against the common dogma that all people with AS cannot read faces, since I certainly never had any sort of coaching at that young age.

Has anyone here had similar experiences? I look forward to your thoughts on this, whether you have experienced this or not.

I'm actually pretty good at reading faces. I'm also really good at recognizing faces (horrible with names though), which people with AS are supposed to have problems with. You have to remember that with any spectrum based diagnoses, there is going to be a lot of variety among the people who have it.

Who knows. I could do that also. In Aspergers Syndrome(Written by tony attwood), it says that people with aspergers CAN see such things, but not to the degree others can.

I can read basic expressions, but on others, without the voice behind it, I am pretty lost.
I mean, I can get a basic idea, but putting an emotion to it is another matter.

I feel like I can read facial expressions, but I'm pretty sure I have a problem with lumping most of them into the aggressive category.

I can read faces fairly well, I just can't give the correct response . . .

I can read faces pretty well... if I look at them. My problem is that I have such strong gaze-aversion that I almost never do.

I can read some basic facial expressions without a voice backing the expression up.
The rest of the basic facial expressions i can only reconizge with a voice to back up the expression.
However, Im still unsure if i have asperger's syndrome.
