Interesting notion; I'm not sure how related to AS it is, but, yes, I have a rather fierce sense of loyalty; I place it among my set of virtues. Like respect and trust, loyalty must be painstakingly earned with me; and also like respect and trust, it can be lost if I am mal-used. But if my loyalty is there for something or someone, it is generally unwavering. Like others here have mentioned, if someone I am loyal to "betrays" me, it wounds me very deeply.
For example, I'd rather face the penalties for refusing to testify than testify against a friend or loved one. For another example, I have great loyalty to my employer because they consistently treat me very well; I have access to a huge amount of intellectual property and other confidential information that I guard well not because of some NDA I signed long ago, but out of earned loyalty.
Loyalty is one of those points of honour that I hold dear, and it is enforced by my conscience; because of that it is more valuable than money (and that, I think, may be an aspie thing); if I took a billion dollars to betray a friend, I would be forever haunted by that betrayal, so it wouldn't be worth it to me.
Good fortune,
- Icarus can be bribed, but not on matters of loyalty...
