 I thought I had a couple of friends here. That used to exchange emails with me. But suddenly stopped for no obvious reason. In case anybody does want to email me, I've 3 emails: [Mod. redacted] I don't feel part of this forum otherwise, especially since it got taken over by Autsqueaks.

I thought the purpose of this forum was to post stuff on the forum. Also, what do you mean this forum was taken over by autsqueaks?

Thought everybody knew about that. Can't be any clearer without being censored. Question was why a couple of 'friends' from here suddenly stopped emailing me.

Well, are your friends still active here? Why not look at the last date that were here, or if it is hidden like me, why not look at the date of the last post.
I am guessing you already PMed the members.
I noticed you did almost all your posting after you joined in Nov '09. I wasn't on WP then so I don't anything about Autsqueaks.

He's referring to Autism Speaks, and the fact they they have helped fund videos that Alex, who runs this site has done (with collaborators) and posted here.

If "this forum" means the website, the claim might be called a gross exaggeration, in my opinion. If "this forum" means the messageboard, then even that would be giving the claim too much credit. No one's taken over the messageboard, but apparently, some things Alex has done (in who he's collaborated with and/or gotten funding from) have made some people feel less at home here.

This forum is hardly a mouthpiece for Autism Speaks! From reading posts here I get the feeling the mosts members are against their policies. It is possible (I don't know the whole story) that Alex accepted funding from Autism Speaks for financial reasons and not ideological ones. Also disagreeing with Autism Speaks or even Alex is not against the forum rules.

What is the deal with Autism Speaks? I've heard of it, but never looked it up or read anything about it.

Yes, explanation please. Or else point me to a helpful thread or similar. I'm NT so not too clued up about AS politics etc.. No doubt my fault.

I think the forum is excellent, but I wouldn't know how it used to be (if indeed it was different).

Autism speaks has been known for making an effort to create a bad image of autism on media(see ad Im autism on youtube), spending several millions on attempts to find "a cure" instead of helping individuals with as...

Crikey. Who would be interested in promoting this sort of stuff? Is the "cure" drugs based?

This is what I found about the cure thing(was never interested on autism speaks drama) "The consolidation of the two organizations is based on their mutual commitment to accelerate and fund biomedical research into the causes, prevention, treatments and cure for autism spectrum disorders"

And they are a non-profitable organization and apparently they raise more for researchs... if people fear it hence their effort of creating a bad public image

Thank you spongy. The quote implies that autism speaks was formed out of two prior organisations. Totally off topic, but wasn't there a crowd that sort of claimed the same for same sex orientation? Not that I'm in ANY way comparing these two situations. Seriously scary.

I never wanted friends. I just wanted someone to boss around and lecture too about my obsessesions. I have no desire for social contact. I have a bearded dragon and she is all I need. I don't know why, but "friendly" people really creep me out for some reason.

Well, I remain very concerned about Alex accepting funds from Autsqueaks, personally. Obviously, he must have done so for financial rather than ideological reasons! I didn't mean to exaggerate the situation, however & I'm grateful to those who've clarified the situation.
