Hi,
just scored 148 "you are very likely an Aspie" on the online test on the site. I wondered whether any of the diagnosed AS people could tell me in their opinion if I am, don't know where to start as there's so much to say!
have always felt alien to other people, have nervous habits like licking fingers/hands and rolling edges of papers etc., many times have said inappropriate things in company (just blurt it out can't stop myself) people have said I'm tactless, don't like loud noise, don't like crowds, find it hard letting people get to know me, don't like bright light, have phobias, very sensitive to pain, have caught myself faintly rocking when under stress before, had "epilepti-form attacks" as a child and had to have a brain scan where they said there was a slight abnormality, need lists to remember things (then I forget to look at my list!) am intelligent, very analytical and perfectionist...so much more I can't remember it all to put it down. I have two young children who I have seen some signs in like myself as well.

What do you all think? Many thanks for any answers. :?:

Diagnosis is not a sure thing, doctors aren't always right.
I scored 176 on the test, but I didn't get diagnosed, they said I am normal despite being different than everybody else in every way and having every single damn symptom of AS.
I also know someone who I am 100% sure doesn't have it who was diagnosed with it, despite not fitting any of the symptoms and scoring like 98 on the test.

I've never heard of that test. How did you find it?

Your description does sound like AS, or maybe OCD. I don't know. :?

I found the test under the members section on the discussion boards on this site under the thread "how much do you score on the Aspie quiz?" started by vejita.

So much of what I have read from those with AS fits how I feel, the first time I read a list of supposed AS traits it was like a dawning realisation or 'coming home'. I had always wondered why I seemed to be different, why other people didn't understand my reactions/behaviours/opinions/motivations etc. and I felt almost relieved to realise that there was a good chance that I have this condition and at least I had an explanation to everything...

PS I haven't even been to the docs about this as I know they will just fob me off as a time waster, I've told my psychologist that I think I have it and she said you may have - but that was during my first ever meeting with her so I think it was a throw away comment.

The right person at the right time, with someone that knows AS could probably get a good diagnosis in MINUTES! So it depends. If she told you something, and that triggered a memory which triggered a detailed statment about something several years ago that relates to something that relates to something that relates to something she said, and you spoke at length about it, that is VERY aspie! extra creidt if you kept talking, despite her interruptions, and/or tied it into the current discussion.

Oh God that is quite me! People have always told me I don't stop talking, and I've seen people's jaws drop and them becoming quite mesmerised by the speed my mouth moves when I'm talking and they have also told me that they were trying to work out when I took a breath 'cos they didn't notice it! (I seem to not need to breathe as much when I'm in full flow lol!)

I have always gone off at tangents about things, someone will say something and I will start gabbling and derail from the original point without realising I've done it, and then forget what the original point was, so it's quite possible that I did do that with the psychologist.

The problem I find is that my mind fills up with stuff so quick that I have to get it out there and then 'cos I get very annoyed that I've forgotten it if I don't, and it often leads to me interrupting or talking over people. I know I'm doing it but I can't stop myself. People can look quite irritated and become a bit terse in stopping me, so that they can get their head around what I'm saying/catch up with note taking etc.

I've heard a foreign person say to someone else about me that they couldn't understand a word I was saying as I spoke so fast despite the fact that they understand all the other English speaking people they meet.

Is this a typical AS trait, or is it typical perhaps as an OCD behaviour of an AS person?

All answers are very helpful and thanks for opinions - sorry if I'm driving anyone mad! :D

AS probably has OCD atrtibutes, but they aren't the same.

What I described is one of the things that makes me believe I have AS. It has been listed in several areas, and some here have talked about it. It IS odd though, and the thoughts can start out seeming TOTALLY disconnected. Clearly, it is a byproduct of the way AS people think, etc...

Anyway, if I was a psychiatrist, and heard a person talk like that, I would figure they probably have AS, and start asking questions about interests, when they started talking, etc.....

I'm curious as to why you didn't get diagnosed when you have every symptom? I'm almost thankful I don't have health insurance, because I'm too fearful they'd tell me I'm not an Aspie. Nothing's ever made me feel so at home until AS.
