and I was focused so much into visualizing for something they were talking about that i totally spaced and went blank-faced! Oh I was listening but man I didn't mean to do that. They actually stoppoed the conversation and asked what i was looking at

Yeah, my brain turns down the volume in a lot of conversations. It's like the teacher's voice in the Charlie Brown cartoons... "Waah-wah-wah-waaaah..." - "Yes Ma'am."

I also do it while I'm reading books, which is annoying, I can read and be thinking about something else entirely then I have to go back and read that part again.

Yeah, my mother taught me to do that HABITUALLY! Sometimes I have to STRUGGLE to avoid it. Her talks have been SO inane and can go on LITERALLY for HOURS! It is all I can do to remain sane. Still, I have to listen for key words, lulls, emphasis just so I can say yes, no, unhuh, etc... at the right points. I usually fail at some point and EVENTUALLY, she gives up.

At work they may give me a long diatribe, and it is all I can do to avoid calling them a blithering idiot. They "research" for hours to tell me the obvious and, in doing so, keep me from doing REAL research. INSANE!
