I like to think in the tub. That is, my brain likes to think in the tub. I just let it do its thing.

Today in the tub I had an intimation of an idea. There is a correlation between echolalia and Narrow focus/interests.

I can kinda see that the later is a form of the former; one adopts rigid and stylized thinking as a means of prefered means of communication, just as echolalic behavior uses soundbites and quotes to facilitate interaction.

Of course it goes deeper than that; narrow interests serve other comforts as well.

I'd be interested to see what Rdos has to say about it.

Discuss?

Heh. I like to sit in the shower (yes, sit) and just let my mind wander wherever it wants. It's funny to see someone else does the same.

And yeah, echolalia is just verbal fixation, really. I do it, but mentally.

God damn, just letting my mind wander sounds like torture to me.
When I am in he shower I sing Mushroomhead or Nevermore songs and focus on washing my hair and stuff, I have to keep my brain occupied on something at all times.

Thank you fuzzy for starting this thread. I have only recently been diagnosed with AS & I am learning fast through threads like this.

What you said about echolaic behaviour & quotes facilitating interaction I found deeply interesting.

I am training to be a spiritual director and teachers and trainees have said I have an amazing memory for quotes. I think I have an almost 'savant type' memory for quotes on the theme of love, loss & freedom.

It makes so much sense that this would facilitate interaction. Please could you tell me what is echolaic ? as I thought it was about echo, or using sounds.

I do most of my thinking in Bath, it's where I go to University. :D

(Also, being as it is November, it's almost as wet as one's average bathtub too...)

I'm sorry, that one was good.

And to stay on topic, I do an inordiante amount of thinking in the bath, or shower. Unfortunately the conditions aren't conducive to note taking, so I also forget a lot in the bath or shower.

My favorite place to relax and think is soaking in the tub.
