We have stimmy toys all over our house. When an NT comes over and zones out while playing with a Slinky toy, for instance, I point out that they're stimmng. It's their inner autist wanting to come out and relate to the world. They get excited about it and really get into the stimming. It's either NT therapy or my secret plot to turn everyone into autists.

lol, I do wonder sometimes about if an NT who spends lots of time with autists does suddenly get that urge to learn bus route plans just for the fun of it ;-)
And actually it really surprised me a bit to learn that younger NT kids don't usually pick up behaviors from their (older) autistic family members, such as the stimming (or at least don't pick it up too much).

My therapist is NT and she loves to buy little toys to play with. She always brings them to our sessions to share with me.

WOW, so "normal" people DO do that? So what don't they do?

Naybe NTs have an instinct to conform and being good at conforming suppresses their natural autie traits?

Everybody stims. Psychological disorders are basically just an over-normal response.

You better believe it. It's happened I had friend at school who use to hang out with the people in my unit I knew from Year 7 and he was very much NT by the time I left the school he lost a lot of his NT behaviour and not in school but outside as well. It was quite amusing watching him he use to copy me more than the others. And follow me like my shadow which I didn't like at all.

Plus NTs of course are considered to be stimming in "acceptable" ways only, according to society. Here's a video about that topic too -> http://youtube.com/watch?v=f15JexiQt4U

Maybe forms of shock can cause a form of temporary Autism. Catatonia might tap into the same parts of the brain, or switch off the other parts of the brain, to those active in ASD's.

Excessive doses of grief, terror or shock seem to produce behavior in NT's that might be seen as similar to Autism.

Besides stimming, there are a lot of AS things NTs do. Difference is we don’t fixate on why we do it, are flexible and pick up on other people’s subtle language. As I read here I would swear I was AS with all the traits, but NTs have them too, we just don’t hyperfocus on them. I was reading an alone time thread and know I need it but can cope without it. My AS bf cannot cope without alone time. AS just has different coping skills for quirks.
