Grrrr!! !

Today started all wrong for me when I fell asleep last night still dressed & wearing my glasses. I hate that because I wake up really uncomfortable in the early hours & there is no time to go back to sleep properly.

Anyway, I tried to go back to sleep but couldn't until it was almost time to get up, when I actually did go back to sleep, & so in the end I had to rush to catch my train.

It was only once I got to work that I realised I had forgotten to take my thyroxine. This meant having to rely on Red Bull (it should be called Red Rag as far as I am concerned, because trust me, it makes me not at all pleasant to be around!)

Anyway, got to work & had to go out straightaway to an appointment, & as usual, my assistant was not ready to leave.

Got annoyed & had a go him (I mean, he knew what time the appointment was & what time we had to leave, so why should I have to tell him when to be ready??????) and he told me not to order him around.

Then I had an argument (make that slanging match) with a colleague about why the office credit-card holders had not put petrol in the van, and my boss explained that what I had thought was the procedure no longer applied & it was OK to use petty cash after all (I could have sworn that he had sent an email saying that we had to use the office credit card & not petty cash!).

I suppose my getting mad because people weren't sticking to the "procedure" was an aspie thing.

Anyway, by the time I had apologised to my colleague (who has just as bad a temper as me) we were 20 minutes late to the appointment.

My assistant continued to irritate me by basically doing what he wanted & not what I told him, & when I insisted, he kept saying I was being bossy.

We had another argument in the van on the way back about the fact that he is never ready when I want to go out, & I ended up losing it, and he said I was acting like a spoilt brat. (He was probably right.)

I am typing this on the PC in the canteen (we had a late lunch) and I'm dreading going back upstairs & facing everyone.

Plus the open-plan office is still driving me crazy - yesterday I hardly got a single thing done because every time I started something, someone would start a loud conversation nearby & distract me.

Why is it that I can concentrate when I am on WP, but not on my work? Is it because I am interested in WP but hate my job?

Red rag!

And, your assistant, whose job it is to assist you, said you were being "bossy"? You're his boss, it's your job to be bossy to him.

You really work with some beauts!

So, is your assistant under you or just helping you out? Picking up the slack is what an assistant is supposed to do. So sorry he felt like you were being bossy about wanting him to do his job. I am sorry you are having a bad day... i hope it gets better from here.

A bit irritable, eh?

If that is an aspie thing, then that leads support to my aspie theory I have going on here...

Second random thought, Red Rag, that is wrong on so many levels

Anyway, That's not so bad considering I now work at a place where one of my co-workers came up to me and said "I got a 360 degree burn"

OMG, I never even realised!! !! ! I meant, as in "Red rag to a bull!"

(Though if you combine the two I am more like an unexploded bomb!! !! :) )

Anyway, you're right, I was more than "a bit irritable" yesterday!

The thing is, yes, my assistant's job is to assist me, but (a) he is older than me and (b) he is actually working in a job way beneath his experience & capabilities, so he resents being told what to do.

However, I know what was expected of me when I was an assistant, so that is what I expect from him. But he just says "It doesn't work that way anymore" & expects me to treat him as an equal, which intellectually & practically he is, but organisationally he is not.

The "not being ready whan I want to go out" thing works like this:

"X, we'll be going out at about 11:00 - can you be ready for then?"

So, my timekeeping being what it is, I am ready at about 11:05 or 11:10 and go over to him expecting him to be right ready to pick up his bag & leave, because I have even given him an extra 5 minutes from what I said.

But no, it's "I just have to finish this" or "I just have to make this phone call", or "I just have to get a cup of coffee" or "I just need to go to the Gents." Sometimes more than one of these.

So we do not go out till about 11:30. It is not just occasionally, it is every single time.

I always say "the reason I give you a time is because you are supposed to have already done those things by the time I come over." He just gets annoyed and says I am being bossy.

I have tried saying "Come over to me at 11:00", but he just doesn't come, & I still have to go and get him as before.
