lol, my mom read this, and after talking with her a bit, she said "if they have so much money to help find a cure, why aren't they getting some of these parents into therapy???"

Exactly! They need people to tell them how their kids can fit in perfectly as they are!

My son's diagnosis opened up a world of relief to the last 29 years of my existence.

No

It ain't all [undiagnosed] Einstein just as it isn't all head banging (the latter is more common however). People see the two extremes, and none of them speaks for me, only I do.

agreed.

am think there should be a 'cure' of some sort [hate that word, but can't think of another way to say it],to help lessen the severity or worst traits of those who:
>want it [if able to state it in any form of communication]
>currently have a poor quality of life due to their autism
>and it not being to make the parents' life anymore "normal" or to help them assume they have a "perfect" child
if it could help those who want it better functioning [or less autistic] then am would not have a problem with it-and as long as it was strictly controlled and reviewed by autism specialists and neutral people first to make sure it was for the right reasons.

a full "cure" do not agree with, cannot see how that would actually work anyway apart from like how they do with downs syndrome babies before they're born, which isn't really a cure,it's pointless murder, people need to realise no human is perfect, that is the main trait that everyone shares regardless of neuro-type,those who want a "perfect" child by murdering the autistic ones before they are born are just deluding themselves into thinking they're going to have an easy or better time with an NT child, truth is no one is perfect.

have signed the petition,as agreed with what was being said on it.
cannot see them changing much as they need the severe LFA stereotype to get them money.

I am all for healing emotional damage, social skills training, sensory therapy.

I am not for Cure.

(Except The Cure, who are great musicians.)

The cure is what makes me actually feel sympathy for Magneto in the third X-men movie to the point where I actually wanted him to succeed... and making me think higher of a different character other than the one played by Patrick Stewart is alot in and of itself...

Some sort of medication that dampens the sensitivity/hyperactivity of certain senses to the environment would be helpful in my mind (literally); I don't really care that I cannot converse with people out there, I don't want to know them anyway. Something that makes the environment more tolerable for those who're more "autistic" than others sounds like...some peace added to a chaotic and melting world.

I wouldn't mind being cured if it was safe. A genuine cure is a long way off however, i.e., repairing anatomical structures of the brain through new cellular growth or some such -- said cure would help far more people than just those with autism (autism would be a tiny subset).
