Hello, hello, hello

Is there anybody out there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
Is there anyone at all?

There is no pain you are receiving......

Anyone else feel like that?

Like your drowning in a colorless, shapeless void, with no sensation.

I think I get what Ana said about not getting enough stimulation.

I'm going to go soak in a boiling tub for a while

Here's a video:

and the lyrics to the song:
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/p/pink+floyd ... 08779.html

I have to stop listening to this song when I get depressed!!

Sort of. For me it involves a feeling sort of like the Doctor describes, like in Quatermass' current signature. Not that I have any delusional ideas about knowing it all or seeing the whole of time. It simply feels like I'm aware of a thousand more things than everybody else around me. (As egocentric as that might sound, I don't mean it that way...) Maybe it isn't "more things", just "different things" or a different angle... like sometimes my view is zoomed out, and the sorts of things that other people notice just look like a speck to me, totally trivial. Other times I'm zoomed way, way in, and things have the utmost imporance to me but other people don't even notice they're there. This all creates sometimes a feeling of numbness, because I cannot share my feelings with those around me, although I have feelings.

Exactly!! !

I get overwhelmed sometimes with too much info, and not enough stimulation

The hot bath was awesome!! I poured two pots of boiling water into the tub as my apartment won't get it THAT hot.

It was great, like my entire body was on fire and my boys retracted to my abdomen. I turned red, and was covered in sweat.

I love it!

Yes, Duck, I feel that way when I smoke that good tobacco that you can't get over the counter

I've seen 'Floyd in concert before. Great lazer show!

Comfortably numb on purpose isn't much of a life.
If you CAN'T communicate, or you're misunderstood, it would seem to me that you'd be trying to scream, not get comfortably numb!

interesting interpretation!

I don't get numb on purpose. Life is narcotic enough, thank you very much!!

I blame it on the chemical imbalance in my brain

You are only coming through in waves...

Your lips move, but I can't hear what you're saying ....

Like a distant ship-smoke on the horizon...

I always listen to Floyd when I'm depressed, and I realize those lads understood wot depressed really means....

You betcha.

I'll have to add this to my list of things NOT to do when depressed:

1. do not watch a Twilight Zone marathon
2. do not listen to Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
3. do not clean gun
4. do not sharpen knives
5. do not listen to Pink Floyd

I'm finding that when depressed, I have to avoid the soundtrack from "Donnie Darko," especially the song, "Mad World."

Ah yes....

a very claustrophobic song.

Here's the video:

gotta love it.

I also like the original Tears for Fears song:

The Wall is one of my all time favourite proofs that I am not alone!!

I was numb, in a sort of casually superior grandiose spaced out way for years, between 12 and 27 I'd say.( tho only successful at it from 18 !) Then the wall began to crack, and crumbled completely at 29 ( first Saturn return , for anyone who's interested! ) after 3 years of manic-depression/mood-disorder. Since then have been feeling, and it's made AS much more noticeable. ! !
But I wouldn't want to go back to comfortably numb, even though it was, comfortable-ish. It was like playing a MMORPG.
Very occasionally I'd wonder what was inside me.

It's kind of hard to maintain an unbiased stance in that case, a very necessary trait in being say a supervisor of a plant, a moderator of a forum or a diplomat for that matter. I think anyone undertaking such a job needs to be unbiased. That's the whole gestalt of being fair and unprejudiced.

I have no reason to single you out over anybody else, and I haven't. I saw inappropriate behavior and responded. The entire conversation has been shown to the other moderators and the admin of this site, and nobody has had a problem with my response.

One wonders about one's capabilities to be fair and unbiased when one *zooms* way, way in on trivial matters.

I'd take a dose of comfortably numb right about now. :P
