Accepting Asperger's Syndrome

I love the author's personal take on AS, she has an uplifting view on Aspie worth, that doesn't go as far as sounding elitist. Thought other's here might enjoy reading some it too. :)

Thanks for posting that link. It's written in a sweet, caring voice. I identified very much with what was said. I especially recommend the quotes (aspie humor)

All her "Have You Ever?"s instantly resonated with me. And I love that she's included a link to the Institute for the Study of the Neurologically Typical. :) Thanks for that, Bightme.

Nice site. I wonder if the person who wrote it is on Wrong Planet.

Ooh ooh ooh. This is great. And very timely for me. Thanks!

I need to go look up cafepress.com for whatever product says:
"Not being able to speak is not the same as not having anything to say." (as quoted on the humor page)
That's perfect for me.

Here we go:

I don't know how much I like how it looks, but at least it's in black.

Also this.

I also like eye contact is overrated. Here's another. There's a few more like that, too.

I'd like to know why people point out the "Rain Man" like character as if it's a negative; autistic savants are cool (10% of those with AD are said to be such).

What is wrong with sitting in the corner, keeping to oneself and rocking away? Social ret*ds showing elitism and snubbing other social ret*ds, the humor.

But their social retardness is the kind that the majority has, so it's more popular than RainMan's.

Well, a good chunk of those with autism are still in the rarely talking, sitting in the corner and rocking box; are they to become the oft-forgotten people who're swept under the rug as they don't have as loud a voice?

It's as if people want to call themselves autistic, but they want to detach themselves from the "autism" they don't like and redefine the terminology (see: misunderstood geniuses; which is completely false).
