Anyone here ever have a fascination with Lava Lamps? I got one a long time ago as a child and was fascinated with it. It broke a while back so I got another one. I still love those things.

I always thought they were cool but my parents never let me get one. They thought it was a fire hazard. I guess they are but chances of something happening are quite slim still..

They are even more relaxing to watch than a fire in a fireplace.

My autistic daughter really loved the lava lamp someone gave to me. It was like her teddy bear. She kept it with her a lot. Of course, it broke. You can tote lava lamps all over the place. Then she cried and cried like she was going through serious grief.

This thread reminds me, I ought to get her another one. It's been a few years.

I could honestly stare at a lava lamp for hours. Sadly, mine broke :(

Lava lamps are awesome. I seen this thread earlier in the day and decided to turn on my two lava lamps I have in my room. Been mesmerized by them for a while now.

I was fascinated with plasma lamps when i was young.

Then I developed an interest in computers, and since I couldn't keep both on the same desk (on account of the plasma lamp actually causing interference with my computer), I went with the computer...

I had one as a child and my partner bought one last year. They are very relaxing. One of his daughters is fascinated by it too.

Here's our lava lamp!

Plasma/lava lamps, and plain old candles. The movement is so gentle and slow and soft . (I like the fizzy "lightning" ones too but they're not so hypnotic) . And yes , real fires.
What is it about them. It's like a visual equivalent of some ambient music that I can end up glued to like in a trance for HOURS! 8O
