Hi everyone!

Well I have an appointment set up for Peninsula Outpatient center on Nov 27. Here are my symptoms. What kind of treatment do you all think I might get for this?

Hard time focusing
Social Anxiety
Paranoia
Depression/Anger

Don't criticize me for being curious, but I have in fact taken Xanax before because my aunt takes it and she offered me one for my anxiety before. Xanax works great for anxiety! Would the person who is seeing me be mad do you think if I asked about the possibility of Xanax?

Sam

Doctors usually say that Xanax is addictive and will suggest a drug that you take daily which will keep you drugged 24/7 and cost way more than Xanax and have more side effects.

What kinds of drugs and what kind of side effects? Do they act similar to xanax?

It seems completely random what a particular DR will suggest for treatment(almst as if they didnt go to school for this sort of thing?)It is greatly influenced by the belief system of the DR(reguarding antidepressants, cognitive therepy or narcotic CNS relaxants). It may also depend on what kind of insurence you have ,as some are very reluctant to pay for certain medication or treatments.

I have similiar issues and have been recommended CBT,Zoloft,Effexor. All those things have some positive effects on some people with these "issues".They are less addictive and have fewer side-effects then sme of the drugs like "xanax".There are also some DRs who are use to seeing "drug seeking"(their term not mine)people who just want to get any "feel good drug" they can....so they dont want to get in trouble for over-perscribing for these.

Good luck.Effexor helps me some what but doesn't seem to work if my stress leveles are to high.I am still looking at something to help(specififically with job issues)but I dont like to feel "drugged",so I stay away from the narcotic type drugs.(I have to drive and think quick on my feet for my job).Maybe if I didnt work I could take them but then I dont think I would need them,as the job stress seems to be the majority of the problem.

There are so many drugs out there now for anxiety and depression. What works for one person might not work for another. I tried Prozac, Paxil and Celexa but there are lots more. The side effects I had from all of them were restless legs at night and weight gain but they stopped my anxiety and depression. They didn't make me more productive though. Maybe those drugs made me lose my drive.

Withdrawal was hard, too, especially with the Paxil. It was like gongs and electric shocks were zinging through my brain. It lasted for weeks.

I use Xanax like I would aspirin. I take it if I really need a three hour vacation from anxiety.

I did some quick research on that drug but I didn't see it used for focus problems. I often have trouble focusing and I procrastinate alot so it's not like focus is a minor thing. I can't focus for more than a minute at most times without going off into thought. Do you have problems like that?

Have you been getting enough sleep? Lack of sleep can lead to symptoms like that (or make them worse). Are these problems new or have you had them a long time?

I have had sleep problems all my life. I take no drugs. Just the occasional valerian before bed.

I've struggled with them for years but they keep getting worse and I decided it was time to get treated for them.
