People tell me that I sneak up on them all the time. Truth is, I hate being loud while walking down the hallway; so I have trained myself how to walk in order to make the least amount of sound. This probably didn't help my already "bizarre gait."

I think that is the most disrespectful thing that NTs do: making a lot of pointless and annoying noise.

I'm one of those, I don't want to bother people, wake people, annoy people, give them their own space people . . . kinda person.

Except for my mouth and my music, everything I do is quiet. I simply do not enjoy making a lot of extraneous noise. Anyone else like this?

I agree with that part of the quote ^ because I hate disturbing people too. I'm always concerned with swishy pants, etc., haha. But I don't mind making noise; I actually like making sound effects for no reason - not in a really loud, obnoxious way, but to entertain myself or something. I like sounds.

Last Crazy Horn, yes.

I've heard my shoes making sound while walking on the concrete outside so I started walking on my tip toes instead like a tennis shoe wearing stealthing ninja.

I have a habit of rubbing my hands together while talking to people but I hate the sound so the sound is what makes me stop.

Meh... I'm always aware of how my walking sounds, and I try to walk quietly - but it depends on my mood. Also, I sometimes have a really good rythm, and I tend to prioritize that when it's there.

Yes.

I was walking from Calculus III sophomore year and a fellow student stated "Dude! You're creepy!" I was walking behind him by a few feet, quietly, and somehow this may have been impolite or bad or something.

Yeah, see, I wasn't originally a toe walker as a child, but I became one later as I realized how loud I could be inadvertently.

Oh yeah, that's the thing. I'm a band geek and enjoy being loud on my horn, but not by myself. :)

yes, i wish more people were like it. it's their (NT noisebags) need for an audience, for feedback, attention, ugh. I hate the way they force you to be an audience for their noise. Noise is obscene. My mother used to sound like an elephant stomping around, and she was only a small woman. I can't believe how much weight people put into their walk.

That must come in handy when you're thirsty and can't make it to the blood bank. :)

I can be totally silent if need be as well, and I hate swishy pants.

I have two modes of movement: a heavy, confident stride that alludes vaguely to gestapo; and complete silence. I have different defaults for different places. But like others here, I seem to have developed a habit of startling the bejesus out of people by approaching unheard and suddenly speaking. My son's mom (whom I've inadvertently startled about a zillion times) swears I've got some Blackfoot in me; only in spirit, I tell her.

The one person who I have difficulty sneaking up on, even when I try, is my autistic son. He always seems to "sense" my presence, even when I know I'm being completely silent. Interesting.

Good fortune,

Oh my mother walks the same way! And she's only 5'2". In the morning, when I lived with her, she would almost always wake me up by stomping down the hall. Meanwhile, if I woke up before she had gotten up, I would try my best not to make any sound, as to give her the proper respect that I wished she would give me.

But, that's the story of my life . . .

My stupid gait prevents walking in complete silence, unless I am only wearing socks, which is not practical this time of year. My feet tend to smack the side of my leg, and my feet tend to land completely flat on the floor, which turns out to be quite loud. Me running is this faster. Yes, stealth mode would be very nice, if it was not for my stupid feet. Stupid feet, who both failed to get into college. One of them was no good at sports, so I had to leave it in the changing room until break time. The rest of me walks in silence.

I have a weird gait too, only I trained myself to make it silent . . . probably in turn making it stranger. Oy.

I'm totally like this too. I won't even make a noise to get someone's attention if I need their help from behind a counter, like at the deli or a receptionist's desk. I'll just stand there and wait until they turn around and notice me.
