I need to go to the store but since it's the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the store will be crowded and the driving won't be fun

Everyone needs to celebrate like the Who's in WhoVille and just hang out together without buying stuff. It would be a lot easier for me.

Suicides go up during Christmastime.

We sing and play Christmas carols all year round because my autistic daughter loves them.

I love anything that breaks up my current routine. My routine sucks. Yay Christmas!

The only thing I like about holidays is actaully two-fold...

1. It's time off from school and work (usually get to spend time with my daughter cause it's time off from her school...she gets more time off though :x )

2. It's slower at work because no one wants to get their blood drawn or drop off a baggie of poop on Thanksgiving or Christmas! :P
Also, because of the sports stuff on t.v., no one wants to come into the emergency room until after dinner or after the game is over! (of course by then, they could be in much worse shape than if they came in right away, so that's a bummer).

I do not like the holiday gift giving... I've been dutifully saving up presents for my daughter for Christmas and birthday this year.
Next year, I think I'm going to tell her she gets her gifts whenever I discover one! I have more fun spreading it out over the year instead of waiting. :D

I started mulling over how different Thanksgiving is from long ago. Before, it was a celebration of a hard won harvest and fellowship among people, some of whom, wouldn't make it over the winter. It seems that Thanksgiving now is eating a whole lot of food not so much of everything else.

That got me thinking of other holidays. I think that holidays were put together primarily to bring about peace, harmony and fellowship.

Now they're all about buying plastic junk for a relative so you won't feel guilty when they give you a present and then both presents go into the landfill and never decompose.

Bah humbug! Still, people DO act nicer toward each other in the workplace at holiday time, I've noticed. That's a little sliver or peace, harmony and fellowship.

I have worked in a new routine around the holidays that replaces my everyday routine. Thanksgiving at my Sister in Laws, the day after visiting my Grandmother, Christmas eve at my wife's uncle's house, Christmas morning at home with my in-laws, Christmas afternoon and evening with my family, New Years eve with my wife and New Years day is a free for all with my family, meaning that we will get together, but the location is not yet decided.

We have a mall that will open at midnight. Sheesh how much shopping can you do in a mall. I made the mistake of going near the mall one year to purchase gas and have always regretted it.

Now we have a tradition where we go and take my grandmother out to antique stores on that Friday. It is so much more laid back.

That is my major problem with national holidays, too. For instance, most of the restaurants I regularly visit are closed on American Thanksgiving.

I used to like Thanksgiving, but, since I have become a vegetarian, I can't eat the standard meals. Oh, well. Such is life. ;-)
