Can Aspies Have Better Social Skills Than NTs?

If people with autism/asperger's run the entire spectrum then it would stand to reason that there are Aspies whose social skills would be above the general mainstream NT population.

Aspies are meant to have no social skills. Period.

Doesn't mean folks like us can't learn 'em.

I'm actually getting far on that myself.

I'm still working out where I can learn social skills.

Just pay close attention to how the people surrounding you act. Try to get involved in subjects that they are in, when you first meet someone, bring up a popular subject and make small talk on it. Eventually one conversation leads to many others, and eventually you will bring in more social experience and with practice you can get better. This is how I did it. Now I don't get picked on, people think I'm normal and I am making more friends a lot easier.

I don't even go to school, so how can I find people to get involved with? Also, what subjects are popular? I don't know what people like.

I personally find it hard to talk about things i am not interested in, i dont do chit chat.

People usually talk about work i think, but i cant do this yet either i keep trying.

Social skills are just that "skills". NT's seem to learn them easier but a lot of them fake it. I know some NTs that are so socially shallow, they are lacking "proper" social skills. As in, they overuse body language, trite language and rely on "groupthink" to make their decisions. They also tend to be chameleons, changing their personality from one group to the next. They can run out of friends just as fast as Aspies. They obsess over what people think of them.

Healthy people don't obsess over other people. They stick with their preferences and try to find a way to form bridges to others.

Thats not in the DSM. Social behaviour is.

That doesn't mean that we can't learn them. Judging from DataSage’s Alpha Male Guide to Meeting Women, DataSage probably has better social skills than most NTs.

Theory and practise are entirely different in regard to this matter.

Am I the only one who thinks aspies have better social skills than NTs? What's popular shouldn't determine what's better, but unfortunately it does. I fail to see how practicing role playing exceeds straightforward good sense, but then...NTs fail to see how straightforward good sense is better than role playing.
