Anybody know of any good assisted living places for auties?
I'm not getting along with anybody anymore, my family wants to desert me, the nt bf whom i thought did care isn't trying anymore, hes driving me crazy making me have meltdowns every night, and my physician explained to me that my blood pressure is extremely high and i already have a heart condition so i'm on my way to a heart attack and i don't want that, and i know im so stressed out, so assisted living might be my only option left... Does anybody know of any good assisted living places for autistics? preferably in on the east coast somewhere?

Wow... I don't know what to say.
My parents wanted to put me in assisted living and I fought it. Sometimes I regret it because of the lonliness but I'm not sure if its worth basically signing away your future.

New York State has very good Social Services and alot of programs geared to help substance abusers, the developmentally disabled, the mentally ret*d and the mentally ill...it is a HIGH tax state, so it is beneficial for "poor" people to live here but,
not a good state for people who have to pay those HIGH taxes. The big cities have more programs to serve those people in need
and here, in Upstate New York, we get alot of refugees moving in from war torn countries like Bosnia, Burma and Iraq. The Russians, Polish and Vietnamese have already settled in long ago. My hometown has truly become a "melting pot" with so many
nationalities.
In Upstate New York, there is a community resource called, "Upstate Cerebral Palsy" but, don't let the name scare you. It helps
alot of children and adults who struggle with mental and emotional disorders, Autism and Asperger's Syndrome. They have community residences and supportive apartment programs; however, you have to move to New York State to benefit from any
of its programs. Just taking a Greyhound bus and staying in a motel for a few days will eventually get you recognized as needing
social services, crisis intervention and a placement in one of their community housing programs. I have a friend who did just that
and now, she is living on her own with community support...and doing better than she was living with her family.
If you want to see if "Upstate Cerebral Palsy" might have what you need, just Google its name and check out their website.
WOW! You seem to have a good attitude, etc... WHY would they treat you like that? And I could see your boyfriend doing it once in a while for several reasons, but EVERY NIGHT? Talk to your doctor about drugs to bring your blood pressure under control. From what I understand, my heart is healthy and strong, but my aorta is NOT! So I have the same problem you do and possibly WORSE! So I am taking metoprolol. It basically makes your heart beat more completely and slower. That means less stress on the heart and a lower blood pressure with a relatively low chance of side effects. Anyway, check it out!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metoprolol
BTW I have NONE of the listed side effects. Earlier, I DID have a little lightheadedness when first getting up, but that may have also been due to surgery, and/or a new heart valve. BESIDES, MANY have that problem WITHOUT drugs, and I don't have it anymore. I can stand up real quick, etc... with no ill effect.
Zsazsa may be right. I worked on a project for new york that, ironically, would have included autism. They didn't know WHAT to do, but their hiring practices seemed to indicate that they were serious about helping the handicapped. USUALLY such things have LOTS of hypocrisy.

2ukenkerl, i do have a good attitude most of the time, just lately my world is turning more and more upside down, after i broke my arm, ive been completely loosing it, and i had a skin biopsy where they gave me stitches and now their saying that my skin is sooo rare, they might name the syndrome after me because my skin is nothing like anybodys in the world, and my nt bf just isn't helpin anything, and i was also finally diagnosed with tourettes syndrome now, so everything is driving me insane! my family just doesnt understand and keeps driving me over the edge. I'm going to look into that drug though, so thanks for the advice, maybe that will help me so i don't have a heart attack, because thats the main thing im worried about!
Zsazsa, thanks for the help also, yea i would love to move to ny, but that might just set my meltdowns off even more with the change and all, but ill defintely look more into it though, thanks a bunch!
TheZach, thanks for ur words of advice, i know itll be basically signing my future away, but im so out of options that its almost like im desperate unfortunely...

don't worry about a heart attack. a LOT of people have heart conditions and live for years and never have a heart attack. unless you have clogged arteries or an enlarged heart a heart attack is unlikely.
i have a heart valve dysfunction and possibly something else which i'm getting re-tested on in a few weeks. but anyways i get chest pain and high heart rates all the time. i take medicine for it, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but either way i'm still here. so don't worry about your heart so much.
maybe you need to break up with the BF if he is giving you so much grief. that's not what a relationship is about. can you talk to your parents and see if you can straighten things out with them? what about talking to a psych or school counselor? i don't know of anyplace that takes female Aspies for assistive living, but i don't think you realize what goes on in many of those places or you wouldn't want to go. many of the auties are beaten, raped, starved or strapped to chairs and tables for long periods of time. women are more likely to get raped in group homes. you will be much safer staying with family or if you are old enough making your own living arrangements with other disabled people.
have you ever had occupational therapy?
